ok, i can see that rationale. it can be annoying tho. not so much because i am deathly afraid of door dings (so calm down phil), but more that it then is difficult for me to get back in - the 456 doors have a big swing area, and then to back out - the 456 turning radius isnt great either.

in this particular case there was no harm done, and i rarely take pictures of this and post them, precisely because it is not such a big deal with this car....but i posted it more because it was just such a crazy/comic situation with literally hundreds of spaces open everywhere !

Even if I'm in the Audi which is a daily driver and nothing more, I take great pains not to ding the (insert whatever high end sports car name) is next to me.

Maybe we need a Certified Courteous Parker badge for people who have received extensive training in how to open car doors.

I'm careful not to ding doors no matter what I'm driving and no matter how good or bad the car is next to me. It's just basic courtesy, I wish everyone was the same. If everyone was careful the only dings would be caused by that legitimate accident every now and then, when the wind gets hold of the door and rips it out of the persons hand. None of my cars have dings because I'm always careful where I park, even my 13 year old Xterra. It's basically worthless, but it still looks like new! LOL

He thought you were parked at the VIP entrance. :p

A 456 doesn't much look like an "exotic", so it'd be a "stealth" Ferrari, around here.

But here, we get the people who think that every Ferrari (even my old 328) is worth at least (pinky in mouth) a million dollars.

Whenever I parked the 328 in the back of the lot, I'd get the pickup trucks who were hoping their vehicle would "learn sumpthin" from the Ferrari. ;)

One time, I had something blue (judging by the paint he left) try to park close, hit the mirror, and left.
And then a white pickup parked in the same spot next to me.

I really think they're hoping their @#$% box will get faster from proximity.

I've given up parking in the back. I try to find the vehicle that's been well cared for, or something likely to be there longer than me.

E.g., The local supermarket cart collector guy told me he couldn't believe I'd park a Ferrari at the supermarket.
But I could park next to a minivan, and be in and out with all the groceries I could carry in a 328 in the time it'd take the soccer mom to herd the kids through a (non-express) checkout line.
I'd hardly ever find anything but the same vehicles next to me when I came out.

One time, I wound up having to park at work next to a Prius. I was worried the Prius driver would be annoyed by my non-PC Ferrari.
But more likely he was just embarrassed. Next to the 328, a Prius looked like a big panel truck.
    (Simplificate, and add lightness. :p)

    Well,you're all doing it wrong.
We have the ultimate form of ignorance and another for folk to poke the finger at the marque(though I suspect the folk I'm mentioning are more of a 'brand' type person than enthusiast).
In Aussie,on a club run(and probably at other times,as well)quite a few owners(usually new ones' in MR/MEHOS),will take over 2 car park's,white line down the centre, to minimise any of the above situations.

As one of the above posters' said 'it's a car,get over it'.

I had this happen to me, empty parking lot and someone decides to park next to me. The problem is the old lady parking slightly miscalculated the distance between our cars:

    Ouch!!

In '06 while eating my burger in the parking lot an elderly gentleman pulls in next to me and I thought to myself "I bet this arse dings my car" and low and behold he slung his door all the way out and directly into the side of my SC300. After I ribbed him a little his insurance took care of the damage yet that was not my beef, my beef was "Why can't people extract their cranium from their rectum" ie remove your blinders because your not in the Derby and there are other horses on the track.

If I'm in a big parking lot and I spot an exotic or car I like, I'll part 2 or 3 spots over from it. I personally consider that as a compliment to the owner without being obnoxious.

i scour the lots for cars taking up 2 parking spaces then SQUEEZE up next to them. Helps to have a convertible to get out of the car. I bought a car just for that purpose. Nobody crowds me. Yes......i don't have a life........

Perhaps they don't crowd because it's a Sebring and they realize who ever owns a Sebring has no common sense or insurance? :D

There was a circle jerk going on about this on another site a while ago. people were posting pictures of them finding nice cars double parked (with 50 empty spaces around them) and squeezing in next to them, just to prove a point they they weren't special and anyone could park next to them. It's really stupid. If you double park when the lot is obviously going to be occupied, then you deserve whatever you get, but if someone parks far away and makes the walk, just leave their damn car alone.

another argument for driving a convertible (spider). Put the top down. Much easier to get into the driver's seat.

Awesome. My first track day in the car was a few months after I had broken it in and had the 1000 mile oil change, and haven't looked back since. That day was epic. I don't think I've gotten anywhere near its cornering limits.
