thanks Raymond... BTW, while owning your Jalpa and with your voluntee to upgrade it, have you considered to have another exhaust custom made ? Looking at this picture, I'm sure it is possible to improve it. I'm wondering to know the room available both side and underneath... Image Unavailable, Please Login
I had the Ansa exhaust from the Urraco P300 on my Jalpa, for the headers there are already replacement in SS available from Quicksilver exhaust in UK. No need to reinvent the wheel... as there is no room in the engine bay and underneath, just browse through my Website: http://www.jalpa.ch/EngineRemove/index.html
you are correct: the stock muffler is heavy and restrictive put a sport one (ANSA, QSetc..) and the car will sure benefit
I did already, and your web is very interesting indeed. But I'm considering there is sufficient space to built spaghetti instead of stock collectors, this added to smaller resonnators and direct pipe should increase result by +20hp. Another fact I'm noticing is the airbox... if I'm correct it gets hot air ?
it should get fresh air from the side vent...like in the countach but on one side only ...not 100% sure but it looks like this
Not at all on the Urraco P250 S, I inspected recently, the air is coming from underneath and engine side, the box is also reversed to the ground. So the aspirated air is partially hot considering the temperature radius of the exhaust and engine... In circle 1, you see the scoop of left side vent In circle 2, you see the air entrance of boxwith air filter before forwading the air to the 2 banks. I believe the Jalpa is identical... Not so. For the P300, Silhouette and Jalpa the fuel filler is locted on the opposite side of the engine bay. This allows the revised air intake to draw air from the exterior.
I think that is it for this reason that they moved the fuel filler from left to right, for having fresh air
so if I understand, the air box is completely closed - all sides including bottom/engine side - and air is coming only from external upper left air vent to the top left side of the box.
I can also notice on your pic there is a separation underneath the air box in order to prevent temperature radius to have an impact, isn'it. this latest model pic has another configuration & design Image Unavailable, Please Login
OK for the clarification. But I don't get it... Why the design of the air flow has to pass through an air box, the filter, then splitted into 2 hoses to enter in each box on top of Webber ? is there inside that box another air filter ? or is it an empty box covering the Webber ? All this scenario is slowing down the air flow versus the original goal to feed quickly the Webber. Don't you think it is easy modification to bring fresh air flow directly to the box on top of Webber and to fit inside it a specific air filter - K&N - like on any Lambo front V12 ?
The euro Jalpa airboxes (see post 345) were deeper than the ones on the P300 . These graphics appeared on a very few 3.0 airboxes. Image Unavailable, Please Login
so they are full closed and the top cannot be open like on a V12... fitted with a K&N... Image Unavailable, Please Login
The airboxes are empty. Direct airflow is not so easy with downdraft carburettors although this idea was tried - and rejected! Image Unavailable, Please Login
While interviewing Paolo Stanzani, I had him to look at several prototypes & developpment Urraco pictures, this model was among the others. He told me it was not rejected due to lack of efficiency but to the bad design & shape, but also to the hidden rear view from the inside rear mirror... Technically, a direct air intake is more efficient, some years ago leading my racing team PSI Motorsport, we built that for our GT2-FIA from the lateral rear window.
This pic is a development model for the Silhouette supervised by Dallara. Factory announced in a press release that Paolo left on 2nd January 1975. But Paolo had that engine cover already designed by one of his engineers, Parenti, that's what he said when I show him thie below pic... Bob Wallace imagined it at first with a hand drawing while thinking to improve Urraco Rally. But it was considered by the R&D dpt as an alternative to the Urraco special "French" flat engine bonnet & a potential improvement for the P300. Again, rear visibility was reduced reason why they didn't keep it for production. Image Unavailable, Please Login
