Great pics ! Looks like Watkins Glen in september 1954 with Kimberly's 0364/AM #5 and Spear's 0382/AM #100 in the background...
Sounds right. I was given them by a friend who lived in upstate NY at the time. He had said some of his pics were from the Glen. Bill Kimberly was a Freudian slip. The friend I got them from was Bill Buck.
I'm really glad you published them. They burnish the legendary exploits of 50s Ferrari privateers (like Kimberly) in so many races and so many places. They're terrific shots and they bring the enormity of that era down to a very human scale. To this day, there's something compelling about a black and white photo with the simple pairing of man and machine. Tom, hats off to you and your friend Bill. Again, great shots! Dave
Ralph Rye photo in color at Nassau in December 1955 of Jim Kimberly in his 121LM serial 0532. https://www.dropbox.com/s/zr6n7lxz4c7zjbw/Kimberly%200532%20.jpg?dl=0 Best regards, Robert
Dear Giotto, I have been wrong before, but it seems strange that 0384AM at Nassau 1955 had a motor change to a 121LM six cylinder. Please see https://www.dropbox.com/s/2gfzs8t7tuiz536/0532%20copy.jpg?dl=0 Best regards Robert
Dear Robert, Your first photo is #0384AM, but not at Nassau. Your second photo IS #0532LM, same number 5 but different car. Thank you for the interesting photos. Do you have more ? Best regards, Francis
Dear Francis, See https://www.dropbox.com/s/49kvyi8g3gfclge/121LM%20and%20375%20Plus%20copy.jpg?dl=0 which is the third photo taken at Nassau 1955 by Ralph Rye which shows Kimberly's car #5. His other photos are of my car and Portago's and others. Best regards, Robert
Dear Francis, In looking at the first photo, it looks like the #4 car was the Duncan Black 0382, and that in the third photo the 171 car of Howard Lively was 0384. Open to other ideas. Best regards, Robert
Rather March AFB on November 7, 1954 #4 was Spear and 0382/AM #5 was Kimberly and 0384/AM #100 was Johnston and 0372/AM
Right. And... N°171 is 0384AM at Nassau 1955 with Howard Lively. N°5 with the engine hood open is #0532LM with Jim Kimberly at Nassau 1955.
And yes, second and third pics shoud be Nassau 1955 with Kimberly #5 (0532/LM), Hively #171 (0384/AM) and Erikson #27 (XKD 503)
Last 3. I don't expect you guys to come up with the chassis number for the Jaguar, but I wouldn't be surprised. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Photos copyright Tom Berlin
My understanding is the first three pictures are all #0364AM because of the scalloped guards front and rear which were only seen in the one car, I could be wrong but..............
If you are speaking of the third b/w pictures, yes it's 0364/AM which was a one-off with special PF body you described very well...
