I hope they don't renew his contract next round again. Kimi is performing like an average midfield driver now. Take the risk in 2019, and bring that Charles Lecrec fella.

Still broken down on the side of the track recently, and max would've hit elton and the rest a darn sight more times if he'd had a fast enough car earlier in the season hehehehehe

Let's not kid ourselves, Maxine is still unfinished, he has a dangerous disposition (not unlike elton in 2007 thru 2009, tempered nowadays somewhat) where he believes if he tries to overtake, you must move out the way, which when he has a car which is too slow, doesn't affect the rest too often, but clearly now the bulls are competitive, it rears its head more often. Even his teammate gets tapped out more often than not.

Elton is only doing what vettel did for four straight years at red bull, winning by being one of the fastest drivers whilst in THE best car of the year, that's it, no secret, not a special talent, just the effect of a dominant car and good reliability. Ferrari getting rid of Vettel makes no sense at all, unless they believe they have his replacement. Elton is no better, and much more of a handful with his political BS and stupid personality, it's unlikely Alonso would be welcomed back with open arms. That leaves Ricciardo, or a youngster, for Ferrari.

Ferraris choice is to add a driver retaining Vettel, maybe le Clerc would be the best fit there, could be ordered to back Vettel and learn at the champs knee until Vettel leaves; or they would need to shuffle Vettel out and try Ricciardo or take a chance on the semi-finished article such as an Ocon - which I don't think they should even consider

ferrari needs a star in the car, with a sidekick, that's how we've always done it when we win most, and that's how we should continue.

The teams that claim they don't have numbered drivers are liars, Mercedes always had 1-2, as do Williams, as to Mclaren, etc etc. It's the only way for Ferrari to go, so unless we don't want to keep a proven champion/fast driver/hard worker behind the scenes, Vettel is our current future, and Kimi must stay until Le Clerc is ready

I know I'm repeating myself ad-infinitum...but do you watch any of the races/qualies? What do you want from him? Do beat Vettel? 4x WDC vs 1x WDC, younger, earns far more money...yet Kimi is still very close to him. The points don't tell the whole story it's pretty damn obvious how much his car has broken on him.

So Kimi took the faster Mercedes, did his duty moving over for Vettel. His race pace was formidable, even before Vettel's stop once Kimi passed Bottas he was reeling Vettel in at a vast rate.

Exactly, ‘legalised’ cheating. Courtesy of the FIA, which, in line with the old BS nicknames jealous people gave, should be renamed MIA, Mercedes international assistance

...only "slightly biased", perhaps, as he still manages Fernando Alonso's interests...

I have to say that since the Singaporegate, I find it very difficult to give the slightest credit to Flavio, or to his thoughts...he has achieved things in the past, true, but that crashgate ruined everything forever to my eyes.

Kimi is a good driver when he wants to be. Never a great driver but still a good one. However now he is just doing enough to keep the pay checks coming in. Honestly, what other team would hire him? For him, placing third is like a win. But if he had driven as hard today as Vettle did, Kimi would have at least been second, and certainly giving Max a run for his money. The real reason Kimi was resigned is because the leadership at Ferrari is weak and frightened. They jump at their own shadows and stare into their computer monitors like a deer staring into headlights. And the leadership problems go to the very top of the Fiat corporation. As for the designers, they just play catch up...living from upgrade to upgrade...but not taking the risks to build a car that will dominate the field for the next four years. The Italian politics and economy are in shambles...and it is reflected in the fading glory of Ferrari. The company and the racing team need to be brought under the firm hand of a single powerful leader with a mechanical vision and the will to make it happen.

I think you are brave to state this - but what about all the 'romanticism' that would be lost if your plan for an actual vision was implemented lol :)

Vettel was only marginally faster during the race. Yes he had to fight back some positions but this disadvantage was negated when he got on the faster tire with a lighter car, and Kimi turning his engine all the way down from that point onwards.

Sorry but i disagree Bas. Kimi is yesterday's news. I'm not asking him to challenge Seb, etc. But I am asking if, can he be a solid number 2? The answer is no

Kimi needs to step up his game. Yes, he has had his share of bad luck, but while Seb is qualifying on pole or second, Kimi is somewhere in 6th. He's not playing a role of humber 2, and try to mess around the competition, but he's always far away from protecting Seb, etc. So why must the Scuderia waste so much of money on him, while they can hire a rookie, take the risk, and build the team around him post Vettel. Look what RB did to Max, and now he's already putting Ricci in the shade. He is stepping up while Ricci is off form, and scoring vital championship points and wins.

Yes, Kimi had some massive bad lucks, but you have to agree that this is not the 2003, 2005, 2007, and Lotus Kimi. This Kimi looks jaded.

I've repeatedly said he's not the same as pre 2007 Kimi.

But you only look at the bad. Whenever he does good you lot are quiet, and it's not the one of he's been fast this year...or last. He's been very close to Vettel, has beaten him in quali (not allowed to do so in the race anyways).

Why does the money keep being talked about? Is it yours? He doesn't even earn that much, he's one of the most popular driver in F1 so what he ''costs'' he more than makes back in hat and t shirt sales. Try that when you're employing some unlikeable tit like Grosjean.

Ferrari has always focused on one driver and one driver only, they're completely incapable of working out a strategy for the 2nd driver. This isn't recent. How many times have we heard Kimi on the radio begging to be boxed, losing multiple seconds a lap? How many times have I said they should pit him because driver X has got fresh tires already and is going for the undercut? It has happened plenty and all I have is the live ****ing timing app...now if I can work it out from that, why the **** can't Ferrari with their tens of screens? They're not bothered about #2 simple as that. Never have never will.

Ferrari don't hire rookies, they've never done so. They prefer letting them get their education elsewhere (sometimes sponsoring it) before giving them the big boy seat.

In reality Kimi isn't far behind Vettel on outright speed. There have been times when Vettel has been exceptional and pulls out that special lap he can do...he is the 4x champion for a reason.

Ricci is not off form, he's well and truly on it. Sigh.

In the first place, we have to ask whether Seb has been a solid number 1- answer would be no this season me thinks.

So are we now saying that both Ferrari drivers have under performed this season? Seems that way.

Yes and the opinion in the paddock is that Kimi is more of weakness than a strength for the team. Ferrari dont seem to care and we move on. I dont really care about Kimi. He's no mystery. He hates the press and is inconsistent.

I respect Kimi's past, but I just don't think he cares that much anymore. He drives. He gets paid. And no more than that. I think Ocon would jump at the chance to race for Ferrari, and I think he would fight with much more conviction and daring than Kimi...and maybe even Vettle.

Kimi moved over in Monaco and didn't take Vettel's place in Hungary, despite being miles faster (due to Vettel's problem). Somehow I doubt Ocon, Verstappen, Ricciardo, Leclerc (to name a few) would've been as much as a team player. A team player is highly necessary when you do not have the very fastest car in the field but you're still fighting for the championship.

Those are 14 points that could've been crucial to the WDC for Vettel. In the end of course it didn't matter, but had the Ferrari stayed together (and/or Vettel not crashed) they would've been crucial.

Ferrari needs at least one new driver...a driver who has shown both skill and maturity, as well as a hunger. Ocon would be a strong partner for Vettle...and even push him in ways Kimi has no interest (or ability?) to do.
