I think Horn definitely made a valiant effort. He was aggressive and focused. Still, punchstats favored Manny as did the deformed face of Horn. Not sure but boxing being a business is becoming more evident these days. The percentages favor a Horn decision. There were 55,000 fans in attendance. That's a lot of revenue for Brisbane, the fighters, networks and promoters. A rematch will double that inflow of cash. Yes, the business of boxing is undeniable.

Cheers Joe, I also think his best days are behind him.

One judge at ringside also scored the fight 117-111. Not too sure what drugs he or she was on.

    Looking forward to the rematch.

I agree with you mate, I am going to watch the replay of the fight but I also think that Manny won, but only by a round.

I only saw the punch stats today and then came across these pic online. lol

The stats tell an interesting story as does Horn's face.

Kinda reminds me of the first Ward-Kovalev fight. Ward's face looked a little beat up, Kovalev didn't have a mark on him.

Spot on mate. Horn did well, A LOT better than I, Manny and everyone else expected lol.

Was a good fight, but I think the wrong man won the fight.

There is also talk now about how much money was injected into Brisbane over the weekend etc.

I have plenty of friends that went to see the fight live. EVERY hotel in the Brisbane CBD area was booked out over the weekend. Everywhere these guys went for dinner and drinks over the weekend was packed. It definitely brought in a lot of money to the City for those few days.

One can understand how boxing is a business, imagine the revenue lost if Manny won and flies himself and his 160 person entourage with him straight outta Australia. lol

Yes!!! Manny charted a plane from the Phillipines and flew in 160 people for the weekend leaving QLD authorities scrambling trying to find his family and friends accommodation that was already booked out. My work friend was flying into Brisbane Saturday to spend a week there and his hotel called him and told him they are taking his hotel room to put in Manny's family and they changed his booking to Monday afternoon, paid to have his flight changed to Monday afternoon flight and gave him his week's accommodation for free.

My friend wasn't that upset, he wasn't going to watch the fight anyway, but he still would have liked to have been in Brisbane Saturday and Sunday night. They didn't give him an option, they just took his room and he accepted it because they gave him the $1200 room charge for the week for free. So he is still happy. Imagine what they charged the Pacquiao family for the 3 nights in that room lol.

It's all a great story though isn't it? Young boy takes up boxing 15 years ago to protect himself from bullies, becomes a high school teacher/part time professional boxer that steps into the ring to beat one of the greatest boxers of our time and take his world boxing title!

Definitely the dream for any fighter and I am sure boxing gyms across Brisbane and Australia will be taking on many more young boys and girls this week hoping to relive the same dream one day.

There was an automatic rematch clause in the contract if Manny lost, so there is going to be a rematch and in Brisbane I am sure.

Expect some big numbers there again and I am sure the QLD government will be rubbing their hands together again also.

Lol, I will be sure to do so. :p:p

    Dear me.....

    YOUR SAY

Aussie school teacher Jeff Horn has given interviews looking battered and bruised after defeating Manny Pacquiao.

Some doctors are calling for boxing to be banned.

    What are your thoughts?

And while we are here, listen to what Teddy Atlas had to say about the Horn win.

What we don't see in the bottom video at the end of Teddy's rant, he asks Tim Bradley who he thought won the fight in which Tim replied he thought "Pac won the fight".

Big win for Horn. Controversy in boxing result as usual. So....
...apart from a KO, what other way could you decisively declare the winner of a close bout instead of using the current 10-9 format?
More judges, less judges, video judges, video fight reviews?
Or is the 10-9 just part of what makes up the sport of boxing and fans don't want it to ever change? All part of the show? I like the simplistic way it works but sometimes the score cards have us baffled.

I saw it 8 rounds to 4, or at worst 7 rounds to 5, for Pacman. Either way, not a great decisive win for Pacman, but he won. Punch stats and the "after" pics really do tell the story. The whole fight, Pacman was the only one landing any real shots.

Pac to Jinky: "Smile for the camera honey, we just made another $10 million".

I heard (correct me if I'm wrong) that Pac made $10m whereas Horn made $500k?

If correct, $10m is a nice consolation prize for a night's work, and somehow I don't think Pac is too broken up about this result, fair or not.

Whatever Horn made, I think he'll make much more next time.

I just read that the WBO have 5x different judges that are going to watch the replay to score the fight again.

They are NOT going to reverse the decision in the event they score the fight in favour of Pacquiao.

He made $500K guaranteed, but that went up to $1M they reckon from a winners bonus and PPV cut.

They just reported that Horn will make $2M for the rematch, looking to take place around in November in either Brisbane or Melbourne Australia.

In the same article it said the first thing Horn and his Wife will do with the money is replace their 2005 Toyota Camry with a brand new car. They have a new baby due, so the car was always going to be replaced regardless I think.

And then they are going to pay off the mortgage on their 'modest' home in Brisbane.

Horn had a ticker-tape parade yesterday and was handed the key to the City by the Lord Mayor of Brisbane. Horn is riding a MASSIVE high at the moment which is nice to see.

But all of this would not have taken place if the correct decision was made by the judges.......... ;)

Correct Joe, they said he made AU $10M for the fight. I am not too sure what cut he got from the PPV.

In regards to the result, he was getting $10M either way so I think deep down he would be pretty upset about the result.

But he has also been fighting for 20 years and knows there is nothing that can change that result now so why stew on it, just smile and move on with life and hopefully win the rematch in a few months time.

    I'll probably watch it today.
Garcia has been on FIRE since returning. Broner is a big mouth and LOVE to see him lose!

His last fight was not long ago and he put dejan down 4 times. I don't know if dejan was crap or garcia was just an animal, but he looked really composed in both fights. This time going the distance did not look like it tired him out at all.

He did extremely well against a young bull and I am glad he has retired. :)

He and AJ gave us one of the best Heavyweight championship fights in a very long time and I think he did the right thing retiring as even in defeat, he can still hold his head high. :)
