The racing would be much better if they just eliminated qualy and had random gridding. Or had a wide starting gate like supercross and let everyone race for the first turn! No...I'm not drunk. I just think F1 and the rulemaking has gotten stupid.

    My thought exactly.

F1 should be a sprint race "all balls out" from start to finish, not an economy run or a tactical race with artificial parameters introduced to spice the show (refuelling, mandatory tyre changes, etc...).
To me, it should be like a sprint car race on dirt track: you don't see freaking tactics there, it's all "pedal to the metal" from start to finish, and a bunch of guys trying to outdo each other lap after lap whilst battling with cars DIFFICULT to drive.

If I want to see tactics, team orders, lift and coasting, I watch endurance racing, thank you!

I'm happy to witness the V12, V10s, and V8 eras.

No doubt to a certain extend, we had domination, just like Merc today, but at least the grid actually raced. Not like these days.

Me neither to be completely honest. ;)

But, the engineering explanation does make at least a little sense - Give 'em more fuel and they'll wind up slower.

Having said that, and my memory is getting dodgy here, but IIRC fastest laps in the race were often very close to the pole time. Seems the delta between qualy & even the end of the race is pretty big right now.

No doubt partly tires and amount of rubber laid down, but still...... [Obviously not the case when they were running gum-ball qualy tires of course. ;) ]

I've gotta beg to differ there Remy.

OK, the Merc's bugger off at the front, but behind them, I think we've some pretty good racing recently. And, they're a bit of a handful at times with all that torque - I've seen more sliding around recently than for many years.

We've also heard them saying "you gotta *push* now, get past XXX". OK, partly "encouragement", but not "L&C" either......

    Cheers,
    Ian

For example; The Rev had a pretty good tank slapper going there for a few moments last Sunday!

Race fast lap has become almost meaningless. Usually it's set by someone back in the pack.
There's little incentive for the frontrunners to set fast lap. Early on when they're contesting positions they're too heavy and late in the race they're too far ahead to need to and are conserving tires, fuel and brakes.
Backmarkers will make some isolated moves for position but they're in conservation mode for the most part as well.

OK. I'll go with that. Great lap. and great sound too - No argument from me there.

Other than they sound like ****, this looks like a pretty good good pole run to me (Nico, last week). No L&C in qualy......

And if we're comparing "apples with apples", pole -v- pole is legit. Pole versus lap 60 of 70, not so much......
