It needs to be detuned to make it drivable on the road. Remember, in it's current configuration it's a tuned race engine for le mans. Designed to run at high revs for 24 hours non stop.

However, as we are now using the motec ecu and changing the ignition, we maybe able to get even more power. If you get more bhp than me, I'll stick a turbo on it. :D

Actually I think Steve Maxwell has the baddest 348 on the planet. His puts out over 860 at the rear wheels. ;)

IMO the Le mans engine along with its history wins hands down all the time. IMO it adds to the car, and to me it goes beyond the power.

Awesome find! I agree with Goth leave the engine as is and use it on track as it was designed. By screwing with it you have a better chance of destroying it. I am sure you will be the only one driving it so proctor your right foot if need be. I'm glad you contacted DaveHelms. He has alot of knowledge in the 348 rediculous HP arena. Ask if he can get you some 348LM centerlock wheels.

    Thanks everyone.

    We demand pics and info!!!

    :D

The company that built the engine will also be doing the mapping so we are on safe ground. We may create a hardcore map for trackdays as well.

Keeping it for trackdays only would limit the use of it. I am after all a Poseur at heart. :D

However, I recently cancelled my 458 order and have put my name down for the new McLaren for 2011. if I end up getting that, I may turn my 348 into a proper LM race car. But 2011 is a long time away and I may be broke by then or even worse the wife finds out how much £££ I'm spending. :D

Please don't put these kind of ideas in my head!!! I'm spending too much as it is. :D

Always wanted to buy a new Ferari and pick it up from teh factory, but they wanted £20,000 non refundable, non transferable deposit before seeing/driving the car or knowing what the price would be. Turns out it's around £190,000 with options. No way is it worth that much.

The McLaren i like. Only downside is I have to start working full time so I can pay for it. :(

Then again I quite like LP640's as well.

Sy....I've been quiet so far for one reason and one reason only. I'm so friggen jealous. Everyone else seems so congradulatory its making me sick. I see Roberto boiled over a bit and I'm with him. It's especially hurtfull knowing what troubles he's having at the moment. I demand you release any and all information you have on the other LM engines that we may confiscate them. :)

    Sounds good man! :D:D

Whats wrong with working full time? If it allows you to buy a new McLaren or Ferrari/Lambo then I reckon you should work more often!:eek:

If I'm working full time I get to spend less time on forums causing trouble and annoying Gothspeed. :D

    Jealousy is a cruel mistress. :D :D :D

The one I've just got has been lying around in their workshop for a few years. I only found out about it when Hazy spotted it and emailed me. I didn't even know they existed.

The actual 348 race car is somewhere in the US. Anyone know where it is?

I think for the rest of us lowly mortals the 355C wheel is the best wheel available. But since you will be able to create one of the few really top drawer 348's, centerlocks would be the cherry on top.

    What's the advantage of centrelocks?

Also thinking of putting a 355 challenge rear spoiler on it as well.

Sy, congrats on finding this. Stating the obvious but be very careful with it, it's a piece of Ferrari history.

I have a video here, Ferrari 348 LM at LeMans, 1993 & 1994 (from memory). Are you aware of/have you got a copy of this video?

CL's are just darn cool! How can you have a 348LM engine and no centerlocks!

Also forget the 355C spoiler. The one to get is APR. It has the modern contour to account for the roofline and CFD shows it works! I think it made 300lbs of down force at 120mph with only 30lbs of drag @ 0 degrees. APR also has the pattern from my car to make a real 4" CF honeycomb splitter. If you get a real rear wing you must balance the rear with the front. mechanical oversteer, aero understeer.

Thanks for the idea and link.

I did agree to buy them but have had to back out after talking to to someone about it. Seems it wasn't going to be as easy as i thought it would be to do. Looks like I'm stuck with the 355 wheels for the time being.

Never heard of it or seen it. Can you make me a copy. :D

    You mean the GTC500?

The 4" splitter would be to much. A 2" could work though.

Sy, is there a technical advantage to using 355 factory wheels over the 348 factory wheels? Larger road contact, lighter, or stronger?

    All the best,
    Andrew.
