Hey all — new here. Bought my first ferarri a couple weeks back and love it, a 2017 488 GTB. Traded in an Audi R8 for it, and the performance differences are shocking.

one thing I have noticed is when doing a stopped launch (0-60), the car struggles to keep traction at launch for the first couple of years. The traction control icon flashes.

With launch control (PS) the car basically wants to just spin out. Tire tread is good (P-zeros) but they aren’t brand new. Am I approaching accelerating wrong, or missing something obvious I need to do?

In the R8 I’d floor it and it would just go, in the 488 I have to worry about spinning out.

    Thanks!

I don’t think it’s a troll post… I do think the Pirellis are your problem though…. Most of us with 488/Pista/F8’s switch them out for Michelin PS4S- they’re much better.

Any turbo Ferrari with over 600 hp and rear wheel drive going to lose traction if you floor it. In AWD R8 the car is doing a lot for you. Ferrari has excellent slip control for driving fast around corners meaning the more aggressive the mannetino setting, the more slip, but ease your way into this slowly. Enjoy the car. It is more special than an R8.

Dont use 1st gear , or just let it spin , control the ass end with the steering wheel and the throttle , like the guy said, its 600 HP turbo, learn how to drive it .I myself would not care about standing 1/4 mile type starts, just stick to roll on accelerations , its got to be a blast, and a lot less stress on the drive train. Whenever I think FERRARI, I never give one thought to how fast it accelerates from a standing start, what I think about is, how fast can I enter this corner, how late I can brake on entrance, and how soon and how hard I can accelerate out of said corner , its that simple, oh and how good FERRARIS sound while driving, I almost forgot about that.

Gawd this has to be the dumbest f… post I have read in awhile. Answer: stop being a moron and use the car like a normal person would. Ahhh geez the car has 660+ hp and the rear tires spin when I floor it :rolleyes: what should I do?

.... AND they spin 'for the first couple of years', he says. I mean, I could handle it for a few months but... that's where I draw the line :p

Did a previous owner have the ECU tuned? That uncorks a big increase in power. With a Vivid Racing/VR Tuned flash,my traction control is no longer effective even with 335 tires.

    Amen to all of this!
Rolling acceleration after shifting to 2nd is where the fun starts. I don’t known anyone who uses PS. My dealer describes it as a frat boy trick. Running from 30 mph to 150 will give you a smile for a week.

As stated previously, switch to Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. If the Pirellis aren’t up to temperature, you may encounter issues with grip. The Michelins seem much more forgiving in this regard.

To diagnose a TPMS/TPMS ECU issue, I switched back to my OEM wheels and tires before bringing the car to the dealer this week . I forgot how easily the rear end would dance around on the Pirellis if there’s not enough heat in them. Looking forward to putting my other set of wheel back on. The Michelins seem to provide more grip in a wider range of temperatures.

Wow how did I miss this post...lol

To SataraR1, your Pirelli are old and hard. These tires do not stay new like very long. Michelin PS4 will be better and Michelin Sport Cup 2 even better. If all you do is drag race then get a set of Toyo R888R for the rears but they will be horrible on the road.

I have been running the Michelin Sport Cup 2 on my 488 and in my hot Florida weather they have much better grip than my stock Pirelli Zero.
