Plus I'm not sure I would call the Pirellis crap: The other way of looking at it is, that they generate an insane amount of grip for a given number of laps. A bit like a rocket stage, that produces thrust until it is spent, then suddenly goes to zero. You could say to engineer and manufacture such a behavior into a tire is actually an accomplishment by itself.

It is now down to the teams to figure out how to best use these tires. I'm sure that'll happen eventually and a lot of the drama will go away as teams will bring in the cars before the drop off in adhesion.

It'll be interesting to see how fast the teams will learn. There is a chance it might go on for an entire season as each track is different. Fun times.

 

Not sure if it's such a bad thing. No one would go and say ''I'm getting me some of those Pirelli P Zero's, because they use them in F1 all the time, and look how much grip your car will have!''. No one is that stupid.

We go through that every year. F1 is doomed every year. Ferrari pulls out of F1 every year. blablabla

And in the end each season is more exciting than the previous one and Ferrari adds another year to their 60+ year tradition. Bravo!

 

Well, prior to the start of last season, I predicted it would be a bore due to no refueling. The problem with trying to divine the future from reading tea leaves is because...one is just looking at tea leaves while trying to pull a prediction out of their arse.

Obviously they play to that FIA silly scenario to get the tyre contract, but in the long run, it's going to turn into negative advertising for them.

 

I have to agree. Unless they're the reason for winning it doesn't matter to the average fan how much they improve the "racing".

 

It'd be nice for a change if the doomsday believers for once would look at the track record of F1. It has been around for so long for a reason. And Ferrari has been in it since the inception for a reason too.

The only thing I was skeptical about was the DRS...but that was partly because I didn't read into how or when it was allowed to be used, lol.

I go back and forth on whether or not I like it. I would have liked to see more genuine dueling than a car simply picking up 10 MPH and blowing by the car in front when they have little ability to defend.

 

The drivers got used to it quickly in Practice in Australia but as Alonso showed this weekend there are bugs in it. If the wing should open mid-corner it could get dangerous.

 

While I can imagine that I think the risk is not that big: 10 mph might put them in the guardrail but not in a fatal way.

Loosing a wheel is a lot more dangerous. TR seems to do that every season. Last year Buemi with both and Alguersuari today with one

Which brings another thought.
Shouldn't off track excursions be more costly? On most tracks a driver can run wide, regain the track and proceed with a minimal loss of time. I realize the importance of large run-off areas for the sake of safety but regaining the track shouldn't be so easy.

 

People have been complaining awhile about this...the sport is "too safe"
