Sooo, yesterday I was at a car gathering with another 22+ ferrari's and other american muscle. They wanted me to move my car back a little on the line up for a picture. I didn't start the car, turned the key to the 2nd position, selected "N" and let it roll. Then I placed the car back in 1st gear and set the brake. I guess about 2 hours later came back to the car to leave and the car will not let me select "N"!!!!!!!!!! OH CRAP!@!!!

Then I remember somebody posting this similar problem and that they simply pushed the brake pedal as hard as they could to the floor and that would fix it. Soooo, I did and presto, into "N" she went!!!!!!!!!!!! YAHOOO!!!

So, to whoever posted that great piece of info I owe you a million!!!!!!!

    Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

    Robert

Why did you put the car into first when you parked it?

What happens if your parking brake fails?? Selecting 1st. gear when parking adds that extra bit of safety especially when parking on any incline or decline.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I was told by a Ferrari tech that you aren't supposed to park a F1 in gear.

I will need to check, but i do not think you can park in first gear, I belive and I might be here I have never tried, but i have 7-8 360's, but I think the car computer will automatically shift into "N" when you shut the car down...or when you are not holding the brake in hard enough...

But like I said I have never tried it so i do not know...

Bill I still have not found the extra "red Fob" I do not think I ever recived it..but I loved your car! it with CF seats was my fav 360 to date!!!!!!!

just the opposite. The car is designed to be parked in 1st gear. The computer will automatically find neutral when starting. In fact, the newer software on the F430 will beep to remind you to put into 1st gear if you shut the down in neutral.

The manual clearly states that never leave the car parked in Neutral while "un-attended". You can leave it in "N" and parked, but you should be around the car when you are doing this. It says that normal paractice is to place in 1st gear or "R" for reverse and then shut down the engine. You will notice that the gear indicator will stay lit for a few seconds after you shut off the engine. When you re-start the car, turn the ignition to the first position and pull both paddles for "N", or if you forget and turn the ignition all the way to the second position you will notice a time lag before the starter engages, this is the transmission automaticaly shifting itself to Neutral. Hope this clears it up.

    Youre welcome !

This seems to be a relatively common problem. For future reference, here are a couple other threads refferring to this "problem" and it's fix.

If you ever make it to Wash DC I owe you a beer!!!!

Clearly in the owners manual section 3.25 use 1st gear when parking. Also in section 3.18 you should hear an acoustic alarm if you turn the car off in "N". Hope this helps!!!!

Yes I would say so, although the manual states leave the car parked in gear, I never bother unless I am parked on a slope. I would imagine in your flat garage you will be ok.

The common sense approach to parking your car after driving it is to find a level spot, leave it in gear and DON'T use the emergency/parking brake. The hot brakes clamped by the emergency brake can cause the rotors to warp. The emergency brake is just that - for emergencies.
If you have no choice and are parked on a slope, engage first, turn the wheels toward the kerb (front or rear of the tire depending on the way you are facing, so that if the car rolls down the slope, the tires will bump up against the kerb and stop the car) and and if you really have to, for your peace of mind, engage the emergency brake lightly and hopefully the rotors will suffer only slightly.
