Actually, I believe they were going to use a 928 but wanted to modify the car so overhead shots showed a convertible of sorts. Porsche didn't want to show the 928 in non-stock form. Had nothing to do with giving a blank check. As far as actors go, I think Geroge Cloony is an ******, so I wouldn't want him. We see far too much of that gay-wad already (to use an 80's term). Anyone except for Cloony or Aflick and I'm OK with it
I'd love to see this actually made, but I honestly don't think it will happen. I guess I'll just have to watch my reruns & DVDs.
The series ended with Magnum leaving the estate and returning to the Navy. It has been about 20 years since Magnum ended, so it would be close to Magnum retiring from the Navy. There are many questions a Magnum movie could answer. What happened to Higgings? Is he still running the estate, or did he move back to England? Was Higgings really Robin Masters? What happened to the estate, who is living there today?
There is only one Magnum, and that is Selleck. I don't see why the movie could not be current, 20 years after the television series ended. Let Magnum be 50. Bring back all the characters, including as many of the minor characters as possible. Let this be a fans movie. Show us all the old spots in Hawaii where Magnum was. Tie up all the lose ends from the television show. I'll even suggest a plot. Magnum had a child. Maybe the kid who is now 20 gets in trouble (You fill in whatever trouble you want: stealing a major articfact, terrorism investigation, anything to bring Magnum back to Hawaii to investigate and clear his kids name). Magnum could have Robin Masters insist that he stays at Robins Nest while in Hawaii and drive Robins newest Ferrari.
Miami Vice was a flop. It's hard to see a Magnum flick working - either you keep the estate and get new actors (bad idea), or update it with a lot of gore and violence - which wasn't what the series was about. But what a great opportunity to use someone else's old graphic (Ryalex?)... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Somehow want to see a British actor play Magnum but without a British accent. Mathew McConahey(sp?) too much country/granola for the role. I like him though. Clive owen would be my choice. 430 would be the closest car to a 308 in modern day terms. Clive Owen+430 is the right formula Maybe Oprah could play Higgins?
How about Selleck being the Father(a cameo roll, just to introduce his Son) and his son becomes Magnum Jr. Maybe Nicolas Cage as the new Magnum ? I still like the idea of keeping the 308gts- it was such a huge part of the show and still looks fantastic. Instantly recognized by the audience as well.
Problems: Selleck brought a dorky, happy-go-lucky spirit to the role. "I know what you're thinking..." "When I write my book about how to be a private investigator..." Could Nic Cage pull that off? I don't know. Then there were the seriously great episodes, like Home from the Sea, where Selleck played the relationship with his father with incredible depth. 308: Much as a we all love them, the bad guys would still have to be driving Dodge Aspens and Ford Fairmounts for Magnum to outrun them. If the bad guys hopped into something fast, like a BMW 3 series, our hero's Ferrari would be gasping far behind. It's a really hard series to resurrect. Who plays Higgins? He was nearly as important as Magnum. And John Hillerman was (is?) a superb character actor, probably the best of the lot. I'll be the nattering nabob of negativism here and say that there should be no Magnum movie. None of us would like it, except if it caused a surge in 308 values.
I agree. No movie remake at all. It would be nice to have Selleck return as a modern Magnum but "if no Selleck, no movie" is my thought. I apologize for me close minded and negative but just do not believe anything can even be in the same class as the original. Remakes and sequels don't usually work - yes, there are exceptions but few. Just my thoughts. ps. it is great that somehow that show sparked a burning passion for Ferraris in so many of us - I am sure Enzo would be happy. Thanks guys - I am in great company.
OK, here's my idea for the new Magnum P.I movie. Magnum is obviously older, and he has inherited the estate from Higgins, who inherited it from Robin Masters. Magnum drives an F430, he is no longer a PI, but recently retired from the re-enlistment in the Navy. TC is still flying helicopters, because he loves flying, and Rick still runs/owns the club. Magnum discovers that he has a son (God knows he boinked enough chicks in the show, he probably has 12 of them!) and the son comes to hawaii to find him. Of course there is something going on with bad guys and the son, and Magnum gets pulled in. I haven't thought about that part. Anyway, Magnum has to go back to his PI skills to solve the crime. Within the context of the conflict, the F430 is destroyed either in a chase scene or a bomb intended to kill Magnum. The F430 is toast. Magnum's only choice is to revert to his other car. For the pinnacle of the movie, we hear the sound of the 308 rev, and it comes out of the garage, racing down the driveway kicking sand behind it, to give chase to the bad guys. Incredible chase scene ensues and the 308 is victorious in chasing down the bad guys. Magnum solves the mystery, the bad guys get busted, and they would have got away with it if it weren't for "you meddling kids." Oh wait, that's Scooby. Anyway, the 308 gets worked into the show, that's the important part. The end. All the same characters/actors except Higgins is dead (which I think he actually is). Birdman
I was thinking more a combination of the Dukes of Hazard and the Magnum franchise in one non-stop madcap fun for the whole family hootenanny. Couldn't ya see the General Lee doing donuts on the lawn of the estate with an engine block hangin' from a tree? Higgins would be chasing the General with his capri pants on yelling for Bo and Luke to stop messing up the lawn. T.C.'s butt would pop out from behind a tree for a second then go away followed by Daisy's head popping out from the other side of the tree. That's the opening scene. All i've got so far.
Just looked on Google. Looks like Jonathan Hillerman is still alive (mistakenly reported he passed away in 1996 - same year he played on a Brady Bunch movie) Thus, he could be in your movie. Love the idea so far.
Add in a cameo by the Miami Vice boys(looking for work after the recent farce they foisted upon the public), and you'd have a REAL movie Maybe we could have 'em ALL chase Crockett & Tubbs ??
I saw the ads for that Miami Vice re-make and figured it would suck. Glad i didn't waste my time. Crockett & Tubbs could have a fight with Roscoe B. Coletrain and Enis over who's Juristiction the crime scene falls under But wait..right in the middle of the fight a black trans am goes flying by followed by an 18 wheeler with a hou nd dog barking out the window. And on and on...lol
Sheesh, I thought Hillerman was dead. Fantastic! Higgins can be in the movie! OK, so this is even better. Higgens has inherited the estate from Robin Masters, and Magnum is "visiting" for a few months while he finds a place of his own, after having recently retired from the Navy. And of course he is mooching the F430!
I was thinking more of a Doctor Phill type as Higgins he he he It would be as hard to replace Higgins as it will be Magnum
