hello f chat i have a 2006 f430 spyder f1 question about 35k ago i had the engine oil and oil filter and gearbox oil ac pollen filter clean k&n air filters flush and renew brake fluid top all fluid levels clutch wear was 35% worn and pads check 50% now that i have 38k now is there anything else i need to do as far as maintenance please help i would love to change whatever is needed i will get a oil change soon again please any ideas etc let me know hehe
Kind of depends on the driving you've done, and how long ago that was. You can get a good idea of intervals from the manual. -What about coolant? -I flush brake fluid a lot, if you don't get 'em hot then you probably are ok -I replace gear oil every year on my modena
just city driving no track nothing crazy but some stop and go traffic coolant about last year and this was all done about 8 months ago .
F1 fluid flush and bleed every 3 years max. (not specified by Ferrari) I just did a p/steer flush and change.
I'm not saying my Independant mechanic is correct.. But he doesn't like to change the f1 fluid every 3 years... He gave me the feeling the less you mess with it the better... Again I'm not saying he is right or wrong...
I have a MT 430. My indie mechanic changes every fluid annually for $1100. It's probably not necessary but he's half the price of my dealer. I only drive it 2500 miles or so a year. I drive when I want but it works out to approximately that mileage/year.
I agree blackbolt. There are many respected independents on this site that recommend you change all fluids including the F1 fluid every year. There are plenty of owners that will argue to the death that it is not needed. I personally listen to the experts. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/360-430-sponsored-yellow-compass-group/404572-what-rationale-fluid-change.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/360-430-sponsored-yellow-compass-group/457563-yearly-fluid-service.html
Do you think Ferrari changed their thoughts on F1 fluid change every 3 years now because they either have a longer warranty on the cars or because they can also generate a lot more money for dealer service.... Or is it really needed for the car?
dont think they generate very much from the F1 fluid change. I called my local F-dealer, the price for the F1 Fluid change/bleed is $275.
Change oil 1x/ year Change all fluids every other year Change F1 fluid every 3 years. This is driving 2-3k/ year.
Not sure it was on my old 360 and was an all fluids service. Have M/T now. I think the 599 was the first F1 car that had a specified F1 fluid change schedule. (every 3 years) With the complexity of the F1 actuator (and extreme cost if it goes bad) you don't want old dirty fluid in there.
... It all depends on if the F1 fluids have been replaced annually already. If the fluid has never been changed in 40k miles .... then no, I wouldn't suggest it... What you want to understand is that F1 fluid has the highest level of detergent of most all the fluids in your car. What that translates to is , it cleans the best... and if you keep it clean, it stays clean. If you haven't changed the fluid, don't. It will CLEAN any build up and put those contaminants into the fluid, which may then circulate through the system and stop up the small ports, valves, etc ... causing larger problems... S
Interesting. F1 fluid has been changed and bled 7 of 10 years in my 360. My shop, which also did the PPI on my car two years ago, thinks that's a good thing. So I have added it to my must do annual list, which also includes: -Engine -Transmission -Coolant -Brake So this is all of about $850, or roughly 1% of the value of the car. Lots of very good engineering reasons for chipping in a penny once a year! Cheers, Andy
And you know this because? Other experts say, " The transmission oil gets very hot and degrades rapidly. It has been the cause of many transmission failures. I am one of the few shops that rebuilds them. Most just replace. Current list for 360 F1 trans is almost $30,000". Makes $ense to change fluids often.
Just to be clear: There is a difference between F1 system fluid and gearbox fluid. The actual gearbox itself is the same gearbox manual or F1 F1 just adds the " F1 components" to the gearbox The two systmes / fluids are not the same and do not mix. So, changing the gearbox fluid IS something that is done often The F1 system fluid does not get changed as often. S
Many pros like to change all the fluids every year and do an update of PIS while they are also draining, removing and bleeding the F1 actuator. Ferrari ignored F1 maintenance for decades, just like they still do coolant, but finally showed a 3 year replace recommendation on the 599 in 2006. This should be applied to all F1 Ferraris, but as a maximum interval, because the 599's F1 system (and 575's and 612's) lives in a much more benign environment than the mid engine V8s. The V8s do their best to use engine heat to bake the life out of all the drivetrain components and fluids. Here is the relevant page from the 599 maintenance schedule. What i dont see is how much life you have on the aux belt which drives every thing- very cheap and easy to change, assuming you dont want to get stranded. Also they have a problem with track rod end wear. Take the weight off the wheels and see if there is any 3 to 9 o clock motion in the wheels, easy on the rears and you need to use judgement on fronts as steering will move at same time. Wear on the rear puts your 4 wheel alighnment out. Mine were found worn at 2900 miles, thats 2 rears and 1 front-did not cost me but these parts are expensive if u have to buy them. A little wear in the front ones throws the steering out.
Suspension joints have been a problem on the 360, F430, 612, and 599. All can have premature wear problems. Where available, Hill Engineering joints have proven much more reliable and sturdy.
