For a large scale model I'm surprised that they got some proportions quite wrong. The wheels are one thing that should be easy to get spot on, but theirs are off by quite a bit. Here is a shot of the rear wheel of the model next to a shot of my car's rear wheel. The spokes on the model need to be longer and the rim thinner. It may seem like a small detail but it makes the model much less convincing.

I completely agree with Daryl. I sent a note yesterday to the mfg. about the wheels along with some other issues/problems I noticed. Not sure if they are going to make any corrections or not. I was considering importing and selling some of these, but if they don't at least fix the wheels, then I might only buy one for myself and a few customers, and then make & replace wheels on all of them.

Wasn't Fchat user "F1Tommy" working on model Mangusta wheels?

I'll just wait until one of the better purveyors of 1/18 diecast models finally offers a Mangusta. Minichamps would be an obvious first, since they've already produced a nice, 1/43 scale Mangusta. Best would be be a fully articulated version by AutoART. Resin models are a rip-off.

I measured up my wheels and made this 3d cad model. I'm thinking I could 3d print some accurate wheels, and perhaps the tires as well. With that and a few other little tweeks the model would work for me.

I already made the wheels, but in 1/24th scale. This model looks pretty good other than the wheels. I hope they fix them or I will have to print 1/12th scale wheels from the artwork I already did(for myself, no more kits as it is a waste of time and money unless you have workers in SE Asia).

I did wheels for the 5000 showcar, wich are wider and have Dunlop Racing tires.

Daryl's artwork looks perfect for the production version.

Well, let's wait and see what the final model looks like. I have heard back from the mfg. this morning, and they are aware of the problem with the wheels, but not sure of what the final results will be. So we may or may not need new wheels and possibly tires.

They confirmed on their Facebook page that the wheels have been corrected. I have one on pre order.

Oh Chris.... looking great! If ever there was a car, and in a great color to get excited about, this one has to be on the short list. Looking forward to seeing more pics.

    Chris,

Stunning job. The car looks fantastic. I eagerly await the "beauty" shots that I hope will inevitably follow. Great work!

    Great thread guys...
I'm in the market for a nice Mangusta.
I have never driven one though but am just crazy about them..
Not looking to race it, just cruise to work and back an hour each way.
    Any advise?

Mike, they are indeed amazing lookers, no doubt. How tall are you?

At 6'1" I always thought if I were even an inch longer, I would struggle in the Mangusta...why I asked. There might be ways to squeeze an extra inch by fix mounting seats or something? I'm sure others can opine, some very Mangusta savvy owners here.

A 2 hour experience every day in a Mangusta - bravo, get er done! Probably good to get updated/modern engine cooling upgrades in case of sitting in traffic.

    Thanks Mike for you response..
I'm about 6 foot, so that will be perfect..
Yes, sitting in traffic is definitely a part of the drive..Hows the AC in those usually?
    And whats the ride like?
I had a 1971 Ghibli for years and used to drive that all over the place. Very comfortable...

would the consensus be that there should be some form of a celebration of 50 years since the introduction of the Mangusta next year. I believe the first prototype was shown at the Turin Motor Show in 1966. That makes 50 years. Would be great if some of the more prestigious shows during the year give this design the praise it so deserves.

    jippiejake,
I think the Mangusta was designed around a 5' 8" man. I am 5'11" and it is tight and very enjoyable. The pedals are too close to my body and cause me to splay my legs. I always feel as if I am in a gentleman's go-cart. Mine is a 1969/70 and the seat is all the way back. In the most rear position there is only an inch or so between seat top rear leather and bulkhead, yet your spine is four or so inches away from bulkhead. Original fixed back seat can go back more if you compress the seat top into the bulkhead or angle the back more vertical so the bottom can go more rearward, both by drilling new mount hole and or using spacers to re angle the seat. The best would be to move the pedals forward, like the Bora, but that will be difficult. I have a Ghibli SS and it is night and day to the Mangusta. It is like a large German designed the Ghibli seat space whereas a short Portuguese muscular short legged woman with F-1 dreams designed the Mangusta seat space. The car would have lost its beautiful proportions if the cabin length was 3" longer. So car art it is and it still is a hoot to haul ass in!
Thirty years ago the first used Magnum PI Ferrari 308 broke down in my city and I fixed it. In order for Tom Sellek to fit in, most of the seat padding was removed and the inner headliner fabric and such was removed. There are ways.

The owner who sells it is a friend, last year he did a 1000 km road trip ... and I was the passenger for a part of it. The photos are from me and 4 are from friends who were there. I am not a good photograph, and the editing was done with a basic paint.

What can I say? It's gorgeous, the line is a masterpiece, it' low, short, very pure style, and the rear part is imho one of the most beautiful ever.

The acceleration is impressive, the engine noise is very nice in comparison of some other engines, and it's surprinsingly comfortable.

To me it's not a "catalogue car", it's fond memories, and seeing it going is a bit sad, my friend is also letting here a part of his life, was a tough decision.
