Dear Khamsin enthusiasts, Thank you for your kind and open technical support and assistance. I wish you all, from this part of the world which does not celebrate Christmas, all the best for the new year 2013 and hope all your Khamsins shine and remain in good shape. All the best, Armaz
Magnus: Tack detsamma! Armaz, No problem just indicate with your Eau Rouge order that you wish it signed and I will dedciate it when in the UK mid late January. Likewise very best wishes to you! Getting ready for a Swedish dinner in the middle of Burgundy here, bon apetit to all Marc
Hi Marc I see you note you coment to Armaz and just wondering If I can also geta signed copy please? It is also interesting while half the world have there cars tucked up for the winter mine is staying a in the garage under the house its 41 C outside. Regards Graeme
Not trying to beat a dead horse, but... I received fluid this morning, but it is LDS, which was introduced on later Citroens. The thing is, that this fluid is fully synthetic, which scares me. Has anyone used this fluid successfully? Thanks, Jack.
Hi Graeme, Thank you for your request and yes no problem, put in your order via the Eau Rouge PUblishing website as soon as possible and I will be able to sign and dedicate all pre-ordered books at the printers and at Eau Rouge in the Uk at the end of this month. The actual printing scheduling wll be known in the coming days and will be announced in the actual book thread, on that note it would be better if book questions were posted in it instead of here but thanks anyway! best regards, Marc
No problem to use LDS in LHM -car. Friend of mine (owner of Citroen workshop) has done on the road -test with -91 Xm for several years. Works fine, and LDS doesn't harm any gaskets. Jasu
Thanks for the comment Jasu, There are many conflicting comments on the various french-car forums. Some say it is okay, but only when the LHM system is completely evacuated, others mention goop forming in the system if LDS is introduced in a system with some LHM left in it. I am moving houses tomorow, i it looks like the K will sleep some nights alone in the old house, and I'll see that I get proper LHM. It's not worth the risk of having to dis-assemble the whole system. Thanks again, Jack.
Hello all, I was just informed by an enthusiast that the late English collector David Barraclough had a Khamsin, this was particularly satisfying to hear for me because he apparently was really a man of taste: he was most famous for having built in the 80's a Ferrari 250GT chassis based replica of my favorite car, the Ferrari Nembo spyder (only two real ones were made they were rebodies by NEri & BOnacini in Modena #1777 being the much prettier one). Nembo1777 is of course my nickname here so that was great! I had met Barraclough at Silverstone in the 80's with his Nembo replica when I was racing there, he passed 15 years ago. if the person who informed me of DB's khamsin sends me photos and allows me to post them I will or he might do it himself. best regards, Marc
A short question to all the Khamsin specialists: is the exhaust manifold of the 115 Ghibli the same as for the Khamsin? It looks very similar in size and shape, but I am not sure...???
Hello, I have a Khamsin and a Ghibli sitting next to eachother in my garage and from comparisons in the past on a hoist I can tell you that they differ slightly, however, quite sure that they can be modified to fit. Front part with the spaghetti work are very similar, the tail tube angle differs. Will require some cutting and pipe bending / welding; something for Mr Handyman! Ciao, Bart
I don't have any shots of David's Khamsin easily to hand. Will search in my archive. Lots of pics of his Nembo on the web; its reg no is or was 4040RU, and the replica was built by Church Green engineering, a company David established with Paul Wheldon. The donor chassis was a 250GTE, ex-Alain Delon, which I bought from an English friend living in Paris, Paul Dymock. The Khamsin was I think metallic brown. Would love to know where it went after David's untimely death in early 90's.
Hello welcome and thank you for the Nembo info. Sorry for the delayed reply was in Paris. If you ever find any photos of David's K it would obviously help identify it. It could have been this one, which is 341, nowf ully restored last year and owned by Doug my publisher... This is a photo that is a number of years old, pre restoration but after a color change when it was with another owner. It is now back in luci del bosco a very dark brown as opposed to the champagne shade seen here. I will ask Doug to see if he can find David Barraclough referenced as an owner in the old paperwork but we are both just a bit busy with the book's printing imminent! best regards, Marc Image Unavailable, Please Login
To continue from my previous post and avoid confusion here are the cover with 341 when it was new and the car just after its restoration last year. best regards, Marc Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Everyone. I dont think that was my car? The original colour was quite like that, being a darker bronze. The owners of my car were: 1. Heron Motor Group ltd until 26/06/79 2. Eurobook ltd until 20/08/83 3.GW Padley ltd until 14/07/87 4. Piers Harman until about 96 I recall the number plate MARIO which has been owned by a few people including someone locally for a time. I believe my car has always been registered with the same Registration number. I believe some of the test cars may have had two different registration dates! Just a rumour! Paul
Marc I seem to recall that the plate Mario was used on a few Italian cars back then. I have a vague recollection it was owned by an Italian guy back in the 70's or possibly early 80's. I would have to check my old car magazines but they are elsewhere. I think Heron group were maserati dealers back then although the importers were a different company MTC cars ltd. They carried out all the servicing on the car. Mine ostensibly is a june 78 and that Mario was tested by car In August 77 and autocar on 25th November 78. Paul
Hi Paul, MTC = Mario Tozzi Condivi the importer at the time and yes the brown [Luci del Bosco] car, AM120341, was the press demonstrator. As we discussed in the past number plates on other cars were switched around for some test drive articles. I will let you know if I can identify the Barraclough car. Here is another right hand drive UK Khamsin, AM120377, just found this photo, don't know much about it other than it was sold by MTC on 27/1/78 was recently owned by a Pierre K, is 5 speed and has or had an...orange interior! I had never heard about this one other than in a UK list. best regards, Marc Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi all, I was just informed that 1050, the black automatic car which had been auctioned this past November in California and was then for sale by a dealer has just been bought and is headed for Austria, a country which in view of its size has a lot of K's, over a dozen. Congratulations again to its new owner! In the meantime the pattern of US cars heading east across the pond continues... best regards, Marc
After the disappointment of putting the new hydraulics back in and the fluid still running out, I had to give it a rest, as we were moving house. The car stayed in the garage at the old house, but for a limited time only. This morning I went there, took the tank and base out again (RHD car), unscrewed the main sphere and found the O-ring vanished. Must have fallen out when we put it in the first time, and the lack of experience made with the LHM-system made that little occurrance go unnoticed. Bummer. Found the O-ring in the fender, incidentally also found a screwdriver there that someone left behind, cleaned and oiled the O-ring and put it all back together. Started the beast up, after 8 months not running, she caught quickly and the system filled itself up: eye on the dash-light.....there it went off Headlights up and down a few tymes, clutch in and out, steering came back online, even the seat goes up and down. Clutch in, try engage first gear: no big bang, works. On Monday we'll drive her to our new address, it'll be the first proper drive. I have a vibration in the brake-pedal at very light pressure, and one of the headlight cylinders leaks a little. The latter will get new seals (from where???) and I hope the vibration to go away with a proper brake-bleeding. For now I'm happy the beast lives again, and I can't wait to put her in the new garage, where I can work on it properly. A good start of 2013.
Unless you have the modified or some of the after market hydraulic cylinders you cannot replace the seals yourself. Check the seat cylinder and the connections carefully. I suggest some paper towel as a tell tale. LHM on the carpet and pad is no fun. I got the O-ring in crooked on my main accumulator once too. What a f*****g mess. But at least that one is easy to replace. The connections on the braking accumulators is a pain in the arse. At least on the Bora they are. I wish those screwed on like main does as well. Did they change that on later Citroen cars? Congrats on resurrecting your beast Dr. Frankenstein ... LOL
