Hi there, I want to share with you my recent acquisition: a Maserati Mistral 3.7 from 1967 (AM1091318). As per Archivio Maserati, the car was originally sold to the importer Autos Paris in Spain, and was showed at the Valencia Motorshow in 1967. After that, I know it had 3 owners, but unfortunately I only have information of the last owner, a car collector that only did to the car 300 km in 20 years. The car´s original paint was Argento Auteil (silver) but for the rest, everything is complete and original (only the interior mirror and the window swtich missing). I even have the tools! Unfortunately the body is corroded and now I sent it to a specialist to do a full restoration. I hope that the car will be ready by January 2013! This car is very rare is Spain, I believe only about 10 cars like this were sold in Spain at the time. Here are some pics of the car when I just bought it. Congrats for purchasing this car! Yep, its quite obvious that it needs a full resto. Hope you`ll keep the color!
Hello and thanks for posting your Mistral. It looks wonderful in those colors! Just .02 Lira,...but before you "restore" the Maserati, have you considered "preservation" instead of "restoring" the car. It doesn't look like it's too far gone to keep original and enjoy. Once you "restore" the car the history is lost. I noticed the car has original factory air conditioning. Is that correct? Cars are only original once! Ciao and best! Trev
Hi Trev, I would have prefered to keep it original than to restore it but unfortunately the body is very rusty so I have to repair it (see pics). The colour is non original, I will paint it in it´s original colour, Argento Auteil. The interior is original and in good shape, so I will keep it as it. The air conditioning is original and works!. As per Archivio Maserati, apart from the air conditioning this car has the following extras: autobloccante, vetri elettrici, tendina copribaule, posti posteriori. I wonder if any of you could help me to find more information on the owners that my car had. I know it had 3 owners before me, but I only have information about the last owner, Grupo Berge, that kept the car in it´s classic car collection for the last 20 years, but they haven´t provided me any information on the car previous owners. Cheers! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Now I see clearly! Just a little bit of rust, but it doesn't look too bad! Sorry, but I don't have any information on your Mistral. Contact Walter Baeumer on this forum and I'm sure he will help you! Walter runs www.InternationalMaseratiresearch.com - Just give him all the chassis and VIN numbers that you can share! Send him a PM,......Walter are you reading this???
Hi Trev Nice car shame about the worm! is the lowered floor section Fiberglass or has it been bogged up. As fas as the interior goes get in touch with you local Leathereque dealer the stuff is briliant. and the repair if needed is a dye not a paint. A Tip fresh ally panels over steel need to have an islator to prevent galvanic corrosion otherwise it will be bubbly with in 6 months. A really good eatch paint on both surfaces is a must. Can you post pictures as you go please. Regards Graeme

Sen~or Azul, That is a beautiful car. I like the color as it is (rather than the original silver). Good luck with it. Please post photos of your progress. Carmine

Hi Spanish fchat!!!! The autopista magazine tested this car a lot of years ago with a shamal. I love this car, i wanted to boy a 3500 mistral at autoretro barcelona in 1997 with barcelona plate. In motor epoca valencia 1994 i saw a 4 litre coupe for sale for 4,5 millones pts. I think this car is for sale now in Marbella with cs plate. in Barcelona there is a red cabriolet, owned by Fermi Sule.
Hi there, That´s true, let me refresh your memory! My car was tested by Autopista magazine in 1992. The funny thing is that the km clock has almost the same kilometres as now (only 300 km more since 1992!!) The blue 4 litre Mistral you saw in Marbella (cs plate) was sold some months ago. Asking price was 80.000 . In Barcelona there are al least 2 coupes as far as I know, a white one featured at Motor Clasico Magazine number 3 with Barcelona plate and a silver coupe with Barcelona plate. This is great! Glad to see someone is putting this much restoration toward a mistral coupe. When you purchased the car did you plan on going this far? Is your restorer planning on removing the alloy body panels from the subframe? This is a fantastic job.... Where is to work being carried out? Who is rebuilding your engine? Have you thought to contact Hans Doll regarding your engine work? Do you plan to maintain the fuel injection? Well hats off to you and this project. Congratulations. Please keep us posted with updates.
The Mistral was the first modern Maserati GT while the 3500GT and Sebring were based on the 50s-concept (chassis). People now start to recognize the car as a fantastic all-rounder and this is reflected by the current market situation. Good to perfect Mistrals became quite expensive in private sales here in EU. I know of a car (4.0-liter version) that is for sale for Euro 125k! The problem is to find a very good car as most of them are still in poor condition and most owners of very good Mistrals doesn`t want to part with them. Unfortunately the Mistral was too long ignored by the market and this is is currently changing.
Hi there, Well yes, before buying this car I read in many places that the weakest point is the body, and when I saw the bottom of the car......... I realised the car had a lot of work to bring it to life again! The work is being carried out by Pueche, a well known restaurer in Spain. He will carry out the restoration of the whole car, including the engine. He recently did a 3500 gt. I have the Lucas injection in a box and I was thinking about maintainig but I read that it causes many problems, and Pueche has no experience in repairing. He also told me that the carburettors are more reliable..... Who is Hans Doll?

Many thanks for your comments! I´m glad you experts like the work being done! Now I am thinking about repairing the original Lucas injection. My car was modified with Webber carburettors sometime, but I have the original injection in a box. Is it expensive to repair it? Does it go out of tune easily? Is it reliable? Do you think it´s worth it? I´d like to hear your opinions...... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Azul, For such a car as yours I would highly recommend you keep it on Fuel injection. The cost will be small compared to what you are spending on the restoration and the end result will be an original car. There are many people in Europe who can help your mechanic set the system up. Once it is set up correctly you should be able operate the car as well as the day it left Viale Ciro Menotti 322. Sure the FI has its problems, but when set up correctly and maintained - with clean fuel - it can be very reliable. Congratulations on what looks to be a monumental endeavor. Ciao, FGM
