    Hello All!

Needs some local opinions if possible.

It appears due to landslide damage, a route I was planning on taking in a few weeks will be closed.
Is there are way around / detour around the construction / rebuilding project, that would still allow me to drive the road FROM Hana? Obviously in an off road vehicle , not an Enterprise car.. LOL

Heading to Maui in a couple days and will have until the 20th to figure something out.

May just drive out and see for myself... ;-)

I've made that drive several times and I always enjoyed the desolate road that runs behind the island to Hana. The rental car maps show it's not a road for their cars, but I found it to be just fine. Scenery is amazing.

Are you talking about the "road" on the south side? Is it really that accessible for the average rental car or would you need to go with a Jeep? I've done the North road to Hana several times but wiuld like to try the south road next time.

You're going to want a Jeep or something with all terrain tires. I did it in a passenger car okay, however there's a section on a cliff that has jagged sharp rocks and if you cut a tire you're going to cry. Additionally, there's no cellular signal out there so be prepared.

Yes. The south road and I've always done it in a Jeep. Just make sure you have a full tank. It comes back out near Waimea. It's an absolutely beautiful drive.

FWIW - Even though everything I found online said the road FROM Hana was closed it was indeed open and passable... which worked out really well for the group!

With the weather the way it was since the 14th , jeeps were the ONLY way to go ( Route was obviously not Ferrari friendly ) and we made a contest out of who could come back from the days drive the dirties...

STRONGLY suggest making this drive: https://goo.gl/maps/7omJGCLYQxD2

We came back on Hana Rd : https://goo.gl/maps/eRY4zneSv4n

That's the back road. What a great ride. I've done it 5 or 6 times.

Maui Wine... It's where I would consider the end of the road FROM Hana transfers from rough to paved, Ferrari friendly so to speak.

We stopped in on our way TO Hana using it as a bathroom break.

THEN, on Sunday we did a Ferrari drive from the 4 Seasons back to Maui Wine for a tasting and lunch at the General Store across the street!

I strongly suggest taking the drive!
