Verstappen: I should be allowed to criticise Red Bull for mistakes

Helmut: SHUT UP MAX! If not the RedBull you'd be zero.

I continue to be shocked how Max can continue to get away with ranting as he does on the radio. Other drivers get roasted for a fraction of what he does.

    Rob,

Would you agree or disagree that is a public or viewing problem. In the heat of the moment what he said to me makes complete sense. Had hamilton said it we would explode here.

When I heard him I chuckled but completely get it. Would be saying the same.

I think it is totally natural in a hyper competitive environment for tempers to flare a little. I don't fault Max for it and I also believe these communications should be kept private. It sets a bad example to the kids watching who may be karting and want to emulate their hero.

What it is an illustration of is the blatant double-standard that drivers are held to by the fans. What one person does is seen to be charming while another is seen as a brat for the exact same behavior. It seems to me that many fans should take a hard look in the mirror to how impartial they are. I'm all for having your favorite driver but it does not mean that the others are all bad either.

I am all for radio conversations to be kept private.

And we all know that the broadcasters target some drivers and ignore others, selecting the messages that will bring reaction.

Just like the media in general, they play a big role in influencing the public.

I haven't heard the uncensored rant ... was Verstappen yelling in anger and frustration at the situation, or was he directly insulting and berating his team on the radio?

But before he could round the last of the 23 corners, Verstappen was told to abort his lap and come into the pits – leaving him to start only eighth on the grid for a race in which he could clinch a second World Championship.

The conversation between Verstappen and his race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, went as follows:

Lambiase: “Box, Max, box, box, box, box.”

Verstappen: “Why? What the f…why? What the f***? What the f***? What the f*** are you guys saying? Unbelievable, mate. I don’t get it, what the f*** is this about?

Lambiase: “We’ll talk about it and I’ll explain when you’re out [of the car], Max.”

Max has been fantastic today in adverse conditions.

He was head and shoulders above the opposition and deserves his success.

With a driving like that, there is more to come, I hope.

I pray that he will keep both his titles, and not be deposed by some FIA chicanery like some expect.

Good job by Red Bull too, once more.

With a car like that, you could drive like that :D Easy driving by Verstappen, easy driving by Perez.
Their only opponent, Leclerc, struggling so much with the tyres - indicating how far Ferrari car is behind RedBull in terms of development.

Nothing like that is going to happen, or else Red Bull would withdraw from F1 and send the sport downward.

I'm all for calling out Horner's hypocrisy on the budget cap, but the fact remains that RBR built a car that didn't suffer from porpoising, which is what set it above the rest of the field. Budget cap or not, Ferrari and Mercedes had no answer to RBR without fundamentally reworking their designs.

    I don't think so.

Ferrari built a good car. But, it suffers from porpoising to various degrees, which eats up the tires, reduces aero efficiency for top speed, and stresses the PU out. Like Mercedes, the whole rear of the F1-75 would have to be redesigned to eliminate porpoising. It's a center of gravity issue that no update will solve. It's a fundamental design flaw.

Red Bull were able to play with a wide range of setups that Ferrari couldn't, and they had better predictably of what updates to their car would enhance their performance, because they did not have to deal with the variability of porpoising.

I'll add this. I don't think Newey had a magic solution to porpoising. I think it's that after Mercedes wiped the floor with RBR on top speed last year, he wanted a car that was less draggy than in his previous approach, and a happy product of that was a more stable rear that didn't trigger porpoising.

I can see a contradiction between the first sentence and the rest of your statement.

A porpoising car is tricky to drive because it's uncomfortable first, and its reactions are unpredictable.

Ferrari built a good car relative to the rest of the field. There's a huge drop from them to Mercedes.

It's just there was also a huge hill from them to Red Bull. .lol

That was not the case until Spa this year.
I don’t think Red Bull found a magic trick with their rear suspension in Belgium either..
