Not "flawed" or "disappointing"; I actually like both as drivers, but have reservations as human being.
Perhaps a sign of our times. There is so much more money in this sport nowadays that these kids were groomed (both of them) starting at six months of age to become Grand Prix drivers. They succeded and made huge amounts of money. In the process, short cuts have been taken with other matters needed to round a nice human being. I hope that at my age (64) I will be forgiven to regret times when drivers were more of a human being. Think about Jim Clark, for instance...

(A hint here) That being said...in all honesty, given the opportunity, I would very much like to have a beer with Lewis, but I would decline having one with Max.
Make it what you want from this. Neither is one of my favorite drivers of all times, but I still think Lewis would be the more interesting one; at least he is funny sometimes.

First he was genuine, then he is honest, now he is a kid Lol. The excuses to protect Max image is getting out of hand. Leclerc, Lando, none of the other young guys act like Max.

I'm not trying to compare myself to you but my dad was a hard nose military dad with no strings attached.

My skin is made of leather so it's gonna take alot more to get me upset than spitting "fanciful" or "archaic" words at me.

Maybe I'm the one that's messed up according to today's society but at least how I was raised and brought up let's me see things differently than most.....it keeps me somewhat sane with reality in my view.

You seem to lack any notion of second degree, I'm afraid. As someone who called for psychlogists, you started it and should have been aware not to call anyone an "idiot" if you were not ready to handle the answer. But I shall be wise and shall remember Winston Churchill: "never play a battle of wits with an unarmed man".
And I have never had much consideration for the "ignore" button. But I shall remain silent.

Agree with you, Joe. My point is, in a few words, that I still think that Formula One is a sport.
Just like in that old british expression: "to be a good sport".
I still do like drivers to be "a good sport", and Max doesn't seem to be.
But perhaps it is a sign of our times indeed.

I find it amazing that the "assumption" of what Jim Clark, Stirling Moss, etc were REALLY like in an era of NO social media, spotty news reporting, etc to be disingenuous at best. JFK was a saint according to the media at that time. Sadly, that was 100% incorrect.

Max is genuine, honest and still a kid. He's also ruthless and eventually gets what he wants on the track even though he "ruffles feathers" to a certain degree.

There are 2 types of drivers on F1 that win championships....the good nature ones and the not so good nature ones.

    Take your pick.

Agree with the British expression but some F1 driver WDC title holders are not British...some are Brazilian, French, German, Spanish and Dutch to stay somewhat current since the 80's

But nobody actually believe they were; or even believed they were. But they showed restraint. And respect for each other.
(There, we could go more philosophical, because there was something much more present than today in those times, which was death on track, but that would be a different debate)
Restraint and respect, that's what has disappeared. But, again, perhaps this is simply our times...

How are people this upset for being told to ''suck an egg''.

As far as insults go, that's terribly tame isn't it? Especially since it was delivered in the most Kimi Raikkonen-esque way possible.

You should read about his father and how they made their money.

Well yes, agreed: but it would be some other debates then...still raging on some other threads, by the way:

    - were Senna and Schumacher "good sports?"...
    - could anyone be a Formula One World Champion today and still be a "good sport"?
(As Far As I am concerned: among the "latests": the Finns, Mika and Kimi, were. I'm not very found of the state of mind "If I need to kill everyone to succeed , I'll do it"; there should be more to it than that. )

I think the expression "If I need to kill everyone to succeed" is somewhat overboard.

Nothing wrong with getting your elbows out either physically or verbally. If physically, nothing wrong with getting a black eye. If verbally, then I suggest you grow up. Either way, your feelings got hurt.........oh my.

It's not what you win, but how you win it. Senna and Schumacher failed badly on that account, IMO.

I agree with Hakkinen and Raikkonen being among the last decent sportmen, perhaps with Nico Rosberg.

Are you kidding me? Hamilton was grooving to music minding his own business and haters here were offended, said it was disrespectful. And you don't think Max was disrectful?

I don't think I've ever seen a comment here that someone was offended by Hamilton listening to his music. It sure as hell has been mentioned that he stands alone listening to his music when on the drivers parade but offended because of it?

I think the best solution for a sportman is NOT to cooperate with the media.
They are the ones who set the scene and create controversy.
Max was set up and provoked by the media, hence his "suck an egg" outburst.

    I agree.

Unfortunately F1 mandates the drivers to speak to the media or they get a significant fine (between 20 and 50K I believe). The only way out is by medical car.

F1 Media thrives on creating controversy and fake stories, and the way the internet works now the amount of utterly fake, out of context headlines and even video sound clips is unreal.

Good luck finding the Helmut Marko episode from Servus TV a couple of weeks ago. It's as good as erased due to the way the internet works.

It doesn't do any good for any sport if sportsman don't commmunicate with media IMO. It would take away from the sport if they deleted the driver interviews afer a race, etc

Oh, I don't suggest a driver should boycott these fake "press conferences", and incur fines.
But he should be prepared for them, speak as little as possible, not expend on answers, be evasive, and only use short replies.
He can use body language to show his displeasure, not look at the audience, but avoid eye contact, never show emotion, etc ...
One tactic is to waste time by repeating slowly the question every time, and divert them. That annoys journalists !
There is also the usual "Yes", "No", and "I don"t know". Any interviewer looks stupid when he get replies that are shorter than his questions.
Politicians practice interview tactics, and I think sportmen should do the same, unless you are natural like KImi !
    You must know the expression: "You can take a horse to the water, but you can't force him to drink";
