Sign me up as the very first person who doesn't care for FM's behavior, lifestyle, class (or lack thereof) outside the ring. My appreciation for him is solely based on what he does as a professional inside the ring.

I don't confuse the two. However, many people do.

As regards the statement allegedly made by Ali, that doesn't sound very much like Ali himself, it sounds like someone is using his name to make a rather exaggerated and over-the-top point. We already get it, and I don't think anyone needs to point out the obvious, FM is a respected Champion, but not loved. That's because of what he is outside the ring.

As regards Hatton's commentary, I think people are piling on a bit with the hating, if Hatton's disparaging story came from someone else, say someone neutral with no affiliation to FM, it would be more meaningful, but coming from Hatton, I think its redundant, and sounds a bit like sour grapes because of this below.

Ricky Hatton is not like that, small minded sour grapes.

If he were he would be more angry at Pacquiao, since Pacquiao knocked him out and in the 2nd round.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xInP9Gi0xAA

But he has repeatedly stated the two are the best boxers in many interviews, and have stated how shocked he was at how good Floyd is (on youtube just can't find the interview) and how every single Pacquiao punch was solid and hurt him. Hatton is hugely popular in the UK, tens of thousands went to MGM and sang the Hatton anthem during his fights. He's got ten$ of million$ and is just a regular straight talking dude and is a hero in his town Manchester. As a straight talking UK bloke he was just fed up with Floyd's recents statements against Pacquiao.

Mayweather also creates and sells a persona. It's questionable how much of it is really him. You either love him or hate him , but the persona has garnered vast attention and generated him millions. People watch his fights because they want to see him beat.

    MayPac was like "Avatar". Why?

    They're money printing machines.

Fox is throwing one billion dollars for 3 sequels to be shot concurrently. Not including hundreds of millions more for the filmmakers on the backend.

Floyd always says : Money is not everything, Money is the ONLY thing.

MayPac 2 will do just as huge numbers as MayPac 1. Maybe slightly less, maybe even more. Why?

Because people always ***** but they still tune in. People ***** about every Transformers movie being retarded but they make 2, 3, 4 and always over a billion $ B.O. People *****ed when Avatar was showing saying it was a ripoff of Dances with Wolf, Ferngully, Last Samurai etc but people kept going back to the theaters.

Over 4.4 mil PPV over 430 mil on PPV alone. Floyd get over a quarter billion Pacman gets over $180mil + endorsements.

    That is because :

The non boxing fans. They don't know and don't care about Amir, GGG. They only know Mayweather, Pacquiao, Tyson, Ali.

The boxing fans is a small percentage of the population.

People *****ed about the fight because it was anti-climatic. All the built up, when action was going to happen, Floyd ran away, or hugged.

What the people meant, was they wanted to see exchange, violence, fight, blood... in other words, boxing. That they will pay for. Running around, hugging, they don't want that.

If there's a MayPac 2, and they're already negotiating... the Floyd fans will tune in, the Pac fans will tune in, practically every boxing fan plus the non boxing fans just throwing a beer pizza or bbq party. Some people may be undecided but in the end they'll still suck it up and order PPV and invite friends over.

Floyd said yes then no. Started to insult Pacman partly to cement his own legacy partly to hype things up partly to negotiate a better deal. Maybe he wants 65% and 35% to Pacman, 70/30? I think it'll happen. How else is he going to gross another quarter billion? He's thinking : hybrid Bugatti, LaF, jet, mansion, $$$.

Still you can't argue with Floyd's success in the ring. His fights are not exciting but he's very intelligent and his record shows it. Nothing he does in the ring is illegal and no one has yet to figure him out. Exciting no, effective yes. I so want to see him fight GGG because it will an amazing test for both of them. IMO GGG will walk through his counter punches and deliver pain Floyd has to experience. Having said that it will be a contest we probably won't see unfortunately.

I look at the FM vs GGG fight as a modern era Leonard vs Hagler. (the outcome would be different) Same Weights and all. But unfortunately I don't see that fight happening.

I know all this, including Hatton's background etc as you describe.. Still sounds like sour grapes coming from Hatton, as opposed to someone else. We are speaking about the excessive hating of FM, so how Hatton feels about Pacquiao is irrelevant, the point is, the exaggerated hating of FM is getting old, even if he really is ****** outside the ring.

    Exactly.

Some are also forgetting that styles make fights. FM doesn't fight exactly the same way against all opponents, some of his fights have been exciting and ended up in KOs, but against Paquiao, perhaps this was the way he needed to fight to win. The same is true of all Champions, and all Champions who endure do what they have to do to win. FM's fights are not all boring (actually none are to me, including the last one), they are all different depending on the opponent.

Mayweather hasn't ko'd anybody since 2007. That's all there is to say LOL. And the Ortiz KO does not count. Most boring fighter ever. Never understood why some of my friends continued to buy his fights, especially when the opponent was never Manny. Once he loses he's toast. He only brings two things to the table.

    1. His mouth, which is entertaining IMO. Great hypeman
    2. His record

The second he loses he's toast. All that will remain is his mouth due to his boring performances. And not to be a jerk, but he will lose. The way the guy blows through money, he'll never be able to retire on his own terms. Somebody will knock him off as he continues to age, he's almost 40.

    Lastly,

He will fight Manny again. That cow still has plenty of milk in it, regardless of what has been reported in the media. There will be a rematch.

    Yawn

Exactly. Plenty will still show up and pay, that's all that matters to them.

On a more important note, the heavyweight division has been lack luster since the early 90s when tyson was still doing his thing. It's been a long time since a phenom has emerged. Clock is ticking, one should emerge sometime soon. Time will tell.
