After almost five years of blissful ownership I've decided to spring for a new interior. The work will be done by local trim guru, John Carey. The materials are on order and include black carpet (replacing OEM beige) and tan leather for the seats, door panels and center console. The dash is in near perfect shape so I'll leave it alone. I can never get enough of the interior restoration threads and am very happy to finally start one of my own. The work that has been shown here is amazing to me and those that have done a lot of the work themselves should take great pride in their efforts.
John, Sounds great - we need pictures as it comes together. Don't know if you saw my thread "another new interior to enjoy" back in November. What are you doing with the Targa top and the "Parcel Shelf? Also, it was suggested to me - too late unfortunately - that I should have had the horsie embossed on the headrests. Are you going for that? What year is the car? I'm sure you will be, as I am, well pleased with the result and by having a trimmer do the work from raw materials you are doing it IMHO absolutely the right thing! Good luck! Steve
John, Congrats on the new interior. I bought a 308 from Fuzzy last year and John did my seats. They are awesome. BUT now I need to deal with the rest of the leather, it's not bad but I would love to get up w/John and find out how to match the color. Can you give me his contact info? Thanks, Brian
Nice choice on the carpet color. Here is a pic of mine (that was ordered that way) with all the leather replaced by the previous owner. You are going to be very happy. (picture courtesy of Bullfighter) Once Spring rolls around in New England I will take some pics of my own and stop reposting his all over Fchat. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I am 99% sure I am going with Black Carpets too. I just have too many colors of tan floating around the inside of my car right now, and black sets off the seats (which were redone by Gary Bobileff's team) while the car was still out West. Throw up some pics all of you guys!!! MB
Hi steve. I replaced the fabric portions of the interior in 06. I posted some pics and a brief narrative here http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=143125 As for the horse, I'm not sure that he can do them; I'll have to ask. He makes all of the covers from patterns. My car is an 89.
Hi Jay That picture of your car was what made me decide to change the carpet color to black. If your car had the better looking wheels of the 89s it would be perfect (sorry Bullfighter, I couldn't resist).
I think the way you do it is to send pieces of your leather to GAHH or Reorginals - can't remember which. They will do the embossing for the front side of the headrest. I'm not sure if the cutting to pattern is to be done before or after the embossing.
Here is a link to the thread Jon (Bullfighter) started when he had the interior of the 328 done. Some good info in there that may be useful.
Beautiful! Tagging along as well. That pic has also convinced me to go to black with all the carpeting sections in my 328. I agree; too much tan!
When I recently redid my OEM black interior (which had black seats, console and carpet), I intentionally kept the black carpets and black console colors, and recovered only the seats and top of the doors in tan, purchased from GAHH. Then, I specified black piping on the new tan seats to tie it all together. I've since received a -lot- of positive compliments from folks at Ferrari show gigs who don't like the all-tan monochromatic scheme from the factory. I've posted some pictures of this on other threads, but since we're just talkin' and sharin', here's a couple. Thanks - DM Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think your interior has a nice balance. I'm not a fan of the all black interior, especially in a black car. I think it would look really nice in a white car but I've never seen a 3x8 in that color combo. Another reason I'm going to black carpets is because the beige carpeting on the kick panels had some kind of pink discoloration. I've read of others here with the same problem and I'm not willing to risk having it happen again. The only way I could get rid of it was to spray it with a dye.
I thought I should post a couple of before (during) pictures. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I stopped by the shop yesterday to drop of the repaired exhaust grill. They were in the process of installing the new interior. The new leather and carpets are beautifull beyond description. The only issue I anticipate is a stopping point. I guess I'll have to do the steering wheel and some of the switch-gear. My main concern is the fabric portion of the interior. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I replaced it myself a couple of years ago but it's already beginning to look tired. John Carey (the man doing the interior) suggests using black fabric. I've seen a couple of threads illustrating black vinyl head linners and parcel shelves and I like the look. I would appreciate opinions on the following: Would there be to much black? Should I use fabric or vinyl? (Carey is campaining for fabric) I'll be picking the car up some time next week and I will post pics then. Thanks John
I just did my parcel shelf in a black alcantara fabric, I like the way it looks with my otherwise all black interior. Soon will do the targa top and the rear ceiling mount brake light and then take pictures. Some stiching needed so not planning to do that part even though I did the work. Jeff
I think I'm going the same route. I spoke with John last night and he suggested alcantara. It sounds as if it will hold up better than cloth.
Here are a few pictures of the latest progress. Please excuse the lousy photography. I'll post better shots when I can take the car outside (raining today). They will be replacing the fabric with black alcantara within the next week or so. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I stated earlier in this thread that my seat covers were sewn from paterns by the installer, when in fact they were produced by GAHH. Just thought I should give crdit where credit is due.
