This is a late series 2 gearbox and as it is about 100 units higher than the rear end number (as I predicted - 100 gearboxes were consumed by the S.2 Cabrios #101..200) I would say that it is 99% sure all three components were taken from one and the same car: 250 GT/E 4063GT. Best wishes, Kare

I'm always happy to help, if I can.
Depending on where on the fender the traces of the additional trap door are, it is possible that an auxiliary tank could have been installed in the footwell of the passenger seat when the body was on the 4-cylinder car - such a trap door would be further back on the car than the trap door you just re-installed. There are some examples of that having been done, although I'm not sure if it was done by the factory. The architecture of the 4-cylinder cars is such that another tank could not have been located directly across the car from where the oil tank sits, because that area is completely consumed by exhaust manifold.

BRYAN, thank you,I continue to see if it is an another trap or not and I told you soon I have a certitude (to be sure).thanks

    Guy,

Today I spent most of my time reading the whole thread on #117. What a great story.

I totally agree: leave the car as is. Bringing it back to Berlinetta configuration would actually be like George Orwell's 1984: re-writing history. It wouldn't do it any justice.
Take it for what it is: a stunning looking body on an early chassis, but with mechanicals that allow you to do with it what it was intended for: DRIVE IT!

This world has more than enough non-authentic trailer-queens.

How does one say?: Laissez les bon temps rouller?

Marcel, I have find a 195S engine n°083S to sold;Do you think I must to exchange with the 3 liters 250 gte, who is certainely more quick, less fragile, more easy to kept in good condition...
It is a very expensive purchase, please give my your opinion.

    Totally agree.
Buy the engine, then make contact with the owner of the original engine and find out what his conditions are for a swap. You'll be a BIG step closer to a historically correct 195.

The next thing to find is suspensions, gearbox, rear axle...

Oh, and Guy, get someone to align the left 2 exhast pipes. It looks a little awkward like this, especially since the rest of the car now looks just drop-dead gorgeous!

    Bon Noel,

    Jack V.

Jack,I am aware 117S will be more correct with a 195 engine, but first it is a very heavy price and second it is out of the question to change suspensions ,gearbox ,rear axle or disc brakes...the car is on this configuration since 50 years and must stay like this !!!
About the left 2 exhaust pipes we are all right, they will be align in a next time.
Merry Christmas at you and happy new year at the entire section .
    Don't forget the Christmas-box the december 23.
