I don't think we should be quite so harsh. He didn't beat KMag, but I do think if given another year against him he could have. Mick was frequently faster in Practice and in Qualifying towards the end of the year.

Massa crashed a bunch and had to sit out a year or two as well, he was a fine B-B+ driver and deserved to be on the grid. I think Mick is in the same vein.

I think the crashes are what did him in.

It did seem like his pace was at least as good, if not better than K Mag towards year's end.

Not quite sure why that's breaking news. We knew that for a month. Anyway, good for him.

I wish him the best, and would say Haas made a good call to move on, although I'm guessing being dropped by Ferrari meant Haas wasn't going to keep him.

I don't understand Toto Wolff at all on that decision. I think it's a marketing ploy.

If one of their drivers get incapacitated, I cannot see Mick Schumacher stepping in a Mercedes and driving a sensible race the way Russell did, or Hulkenberg for Aston Marin.

Russell stepped into the best car in the field. Hulk only had to drive sensible enough to be Stroll.

Sure, but in both cases you have to admit that Russell and Hulkenberg adapted very quickly to their cars, and drove without making any mistake. That's what is expected from a reserve driver. I cannot see Mick Schumacher doing that.

As a friend told me in Stuttgart this week - Marketing ploy/show-pony. Happy he stays in F1 but he is not the F1 pilot most teams are looking for. In fact none were it appears who had an active seat open. Mick is simply not that good. Dropped by Haas and Ferrari. Ferrari dropping says it all.

Does he ever drive another F1 race?? The only real question. Ricci is doing the same job - marketing and appearances plus test work. SImulators.

I think he will fade away from F1 after a few years as reserve driver. He may find a seat in another series, on the side.

Mick's too nice! The name only carries one so far. Merc are doing this as a gesture to honor his Dad and nothing else. I feel for Mick because he does have flashes of brilliance, but only flashes. Max for example was a time bomb in his early years, sort of an unguided missile on track if you like and he somewhat reminded me of Pastor Maldonado with his ability to take out other drivers and nonsensical ways, but Max was always always fast.

Max reminds me of Senna with driving style(going for the gap) and how he "treats" his opponents off camera. Very blunt. No gravy sauce or trying to please the agenda of the media.

    Love it.

Mick should spend this next year looking for another role for himself in motorsport...if he even wants to stay in it. I'm sure he is bright enough to do many other things in life.

I don't get it. Yesterday, I kept getting feeds that Mick will be Hams replacement when the time comes. Are these journos on crack?

If that's Toto Wolff's plan, he must have taken leave of his senses. I hope it's only temporary.
Mick Schumacher will never be a front line F1 driver.
I see his "reserve" driver nomination as purely a marketing trick to keep some interest in Germany.

I think he has what it takes. Not many will be given the chance. Is Bottas that much better than Mick? It’s all about the car imho
