New ECU—or updated coding, I guess, since ECU is standard—in conjunction with new hybrid elements which so far this year have been carried over from last year, is what I’ve read.

Came across this video. A bit lengthy but some great views and some insane perspectives (read drone shots). Plus I love anything Sicilian in general and Palermo in particular.

Apparently they closed off entire sections of the city for the shoot (that's my take, not that I know this for a fact).

That was cool. Quite some effort they went to. Not sure exactly what for?

Suppose that doesn’t come out of their limited racing budgets, so “fill your marketing boots”!

Yeah, that's all a RB promotion for the drink and the coolness factor.

What I do like about them is that they do these kind of videos/demonstrations in many places: Webber driving across the chain bridge in Budapest or Max driving a RB on the ski slopes in Austria with chains come to mind.

Personally I would have edited the Palermo video to about half its length but still, it's cool they do that. And yes, that took quite some effort and time. Makes me wonder whether that's really Max in the car or "just" some test driver they could send on a trip to Sicily with last year's car? Also look at the people involved, so they had some actors and a bunch of extras to manage. Nothing that's done in a heartbeat.

    Viva Italia, viva Palermo!

Palermo will get an angry phonecall from the Maranello headquarters!
Palermo is Sicily, Sicily is Italy and Italy is Ferrari!
    E basta! :D

    Nice… but why Palermo?

Will Max disembark in Calabria and drive north to Monza? :D

Pretty cool...much of it appeared to be CGI and I might be wrong, but that engine didn't sound like a hybrid to me.

Quite possible. Agreed, that Italy is Ferrari's turf.

    Good question. Can't answer.

Reminds of the time I was in Spain about to go to the Barcelona GP. I was in contact with the "Cannonball Run" in Europe, one of their members was here on FChat. It was thrilling to hear his updates on the cell phone as they were making their way from Africa to Spain and then ultimately to Barcelona for the GP. Some got arrested and spent the night in jail, yet still made it to the race. One unlucky guy destroyed his Enzo in the parking lot in Morocco. Good memories.

I'm actually dabbling in CGI myself but I'm always stunned when people say they could spot CGI a mile away. Maybe I'm naive but I really can't. Unless it's done really poorly. Didn't think there was CGI in that video.

Then again (as a drone flyer myself) I was stunned at some of the video captures where it could have been done by a preprogrammed drone and many attempts with the F1 car or as you say just CGI. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. It's RB after all, I think they're a bit like the 007 movies, they rather do the real thing than CGI.

Hey, nice segway back to the 007 logos in the paddock.

The sense of history and wonder when walking those woods or on the banking can only be felt there, no other track has as much awe power. I have walked everywhere there on quiet track days or vintage race weekends: the temple of speed...
