Is your water jet made by Flow Industries? Hydraulic or crankshaft pump?

That's really cool. I would bet there are a lot of Ferrari owners and enthusiasts out there who would like one--may want to have a chat with Ferrari licensing suits if you haven't already done so before they find you.

I worked at Flow as a student back in the 70's. I helped build some of the first pumps and did testing on seal materials for the high pressure side. The mainstay of the company was laboratory fluid mechanics, mostly on turbulence, and I also prepared lab experiments, including stratifying tow tanks and doing lots of old school computer work (Nova minicomputer). It was a great place to work and I am glad to see them doing well.

That's very impressive and the i must say a fantastic job in doing that but machining that with a water jet or normal CNC vertical or horizontal mill, isnt worth $400 price tag. That's made out of Aluminum i presume?
I can see the justification in that price if it was made out of titanium.. But that would be much harder to cut and more costly.. Anyway, Nice piece nontheless... :)

Its actually made out of stainless steel.
Cut time on it is about 1 hour and 45 minutes.
at $150 per hour and the cost of material it comes very close to $400.
Not to mention inputting in the computer and design. So it should actually cost more then $400.

I don't think I've ever had someone on a forum ever agree with me the cost of materials, hours or overheads. Very few friends even agree.

I'll more often than not agree to do work for a friend for about 1/3rd cost. They give me their spec, I do a quote before ordering any parts I don't have on hand - and then find out I'm thousands of dollars higher than they were thinking.

Creating a nasty cross post reference though, bet you don't need 11hrs to re-rub a Testarossa roof, you could cut one out in 1/10th the time.
