I can't believe I missed a oil thread .. I have and still continue to recommend https://www.ravenol.de/de/produkt/getriebeoel/getriebeoele-fur-schaltgetriebe-und-antriebsachsen/ravenol-vsg-sae-75w-90 Or Rotra LSX My 2 cents .. probably tired of me saying the same thing in every oil thread The redline product does look good as well
I use this oil in my 2005 37k miles F430 manual and find all gear shifts from cold are perfect, even 1st and 2nd. When the oil is up to temperature I find gear shifting slightly stiffer but only slight. Hope this puts minds at rest.
The Ravenol specs show both GL4 and GL5 which is a plus for the syncro rings. Another similar fluid is the Mobil PTX .
I've been using RL 75 90Ns with a glug of Lucus oil conditioner for years...no issue with my gated 360. Lucas says you can use up to 75% or so of theirs in a manual transaxle. I don't do that but, fingers crossed, no issues and shifts great after 7 years....
ok it has been 6 months - any reviews of what people went with? im tempted to try this for the winter... https://www.redlineoil.com/mt-lv-70w75w
MT-90, Loving it! Was immediately noticeably smoother and no issues after maybe 9 months, good as the day I put it in. Oh, and I've got an 08 converted 6spd, 39k miles
Switched from the Redline NS to MT-90 and shifting was better. Recently switched to MTL and even better again. 430 manual.
Redline NS in my 08 F430 F1. Significant diff chatter. Added 4oz of friction modifier and chatter went away. Still get a little “rumble” from the diff at low speed, tight turns when the oil is cold. Thinking about going in a different direction. Have the Valvoline 75w-90 oil laying around and may put that in.
I said to myself I would not respond to this thread anymore but I can't see mistakes being made I use the Valvoline in my 512 TR but I would never use it in my 4:30 scud it has the additives in it will eat your brass synchros Sent from my moto g power using Tapatalk
Yes, this discussion of choosing lubricant has been going on for years. The oil you use will determine where you prioritize the wear...... your synchros or your tranny. Pick wisely.
I read this entire thread and the other one as well. I guess I’m not sure why you’d want to potentially sacrifice the diff over the synchros. This is my first F-Car and I’m not a mechanic. My local dealer uses Mobil 1. GL-5 recommended from the factory (for whatever that’s worth). Redline NS in mine now. Shifts like butter, diff doesn’t feel great though even with the FM. Apologies if further questions around this topic aren’t appropriate. Appreciate the guidance!
I try to use oils that supposedly gl5 and soft metal friendly I have given my recommendations before Sent from my moto g power using Tapatalk
I’ve used this for the last year and a half and there’s no noises, or any problems. When it’s time to change it again, I’m going to use it again. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
After talking with Flash32, drained the Redline 75w-90NS + friction modifier (1,700 miles on the fluid) and replaced with the Ravenol VSG75w-90. After 300 miles or so, no diff chatter whatsoever and shifts are more crisp than with the Redline. The gear wine I was hearing at low/partial throttle has been reduced significantly as well. Will report back after adding more miles. All in all, super pleased with the Ravenol and can’t thank Flash32 enough for all his help and his recommendation.
I am also using Ravenol VSG after talking to @flash32 and I felt the difference in my F1 gearbox also. Very very smooth shifts... one cannot tell it is shifting unless driven aggressively. Highly recommend it. And thanks again Dominick!
