    This is what happens when a vehicle is engineered to 99% of tolerances, as a race car should be.
    Everything is taken to the edge of the laws of physics with Ferrari and the materials are high tensile resistant, etc. My brother is in to competitive racing, and whatever you build, must be un-built and rebuilt constantly, high performance cars just need a lot of care and tinkering.

    I've had my 458 for a very short time and I've had to being it in twice for component adjustment/replacement. Nothing out of pocket.

    Evolution....
    355 => 360 <Road Cars)
    360 => 430 <Road Cars>
    430 => 458 <Road Cars>

    360 => 360CS <Track Focused>
    360CS => Scuderia <Track Focused>
    Scuderia => 458CS(?) <Track Focused>

    550 => 575 <Road Cars>
    575 => 599 <Road Cars>
    599 => 599GTO <Track Focused>

    The proper road car comparison would/should be 355=>360=>430=>458

    What am I missing?

    I am having a more devastating issue of a catastrophic transmission failure after 250 miles. There are numerous other small things wrong with the car. What did Ferrari do to try to make it up to you if anything. Thus far, I was offered a Hertz rental car.

    Ferrari sales managment/engineering have catagorized the road car and track focused and the track car to sale to the end user. The end user is giving choices either to buy the product or not. Most end users track thier road cars and track the "focused" ones as well.

    With that said, I believe when Ferrari decided to engineer the 458 road car------they had to look at the 430 road car and scud to make the specs of the 458. Knowing that the end user will not accept anything less than the "scud" at top end and "430 road car" at low end. Another words, be "Better" than the 430 scud and 430 road car. The same principles are applied from the 360 road car and CS to complete the 430 road car, just as the CS and 430 road car came the Scud.

    Remember Ferrari has the Challange car as well, which "is" the "track" car for Ferrari enthusiast.

    Some people like to state "you can not compare apples to oranges". That analogy is false (in this case) simply becuase of how the evolution/innovation/engineering to the different models has transpired.

    "Yes" you can stay within the catagories that the Ferrari sales team has--------- told you to. I have no problem with that. We are all fed from the media and we all consume it.

    However, I believe the 458 may have been over looked on the low end (around town) when comparing to the 430 and scud. And it may be due to the smoothness of the dual clutch.

    With what I have said above, do you----------not----------think Ferrari will build the 458 Scud with-out looking at the 458 road car specs and 430 Scud? I believe it will be "better" than the 430 scud low end and "better" than the 458 road car at top end.

    Thats what you missed. I know it may not be the same as your way of thinking, however, we all can not be democrats. lol

    The less Ferrari can do, Jedifu, is to give you a new 458 Italia. End of story. Then, italian engineers could focus on your "Lemon" to find what was wrong in factory build process.
    Well, if i was in your case, i would not hesitate ask advices from some lawyers. A Ferrari is a money placement, not a joke. Don't forget that you'll probalby sell it one day.
    As i member posted earlier, sometimes the "good decision" of a manufacturer depends on your attitude.

    1. normal. It happens to my Scuderia, bad location for the gigantic reservoir, and high g-forces make it leak through the headlight washers. I now run it empty.

    3. Calipers are made by Brembo. where is the leak coming from? bleeding nipples or pistons? This is really bad.

    4. Normal if you are using the track nannies. Switch everything off, and your pads will last longer. With all systems off, you'll go through 2 sets of front pads per set of rear pads. The stock pad compound is too soft for track use. My Scuderia track pads last 3-4 times longer than my Scuderia street pads. On a brakes intensive track, using sticky track tires, 4 track sessions of 20 minutes will eat 8mm of pad material, if the car is driven at a decent pace.

    3. Leak comes from under the rubber cap on top of the calipers.

    4. The 458 Challenge has 19" wheels. Do those pads fit the street car? Does the challenge use different brake fluids?

    2012 Transmissions are suppose to have longer fuel cut between shifts, Ferrari told the tifosi it is a upgrade that makes the shift experience more aggressive. Getrag is having problems with these trans, they are blowing up on the challenge cars as well....

    If the transmissions are blowing up then it's not Ferrari's fault...they are made by Getrag. Just like the leaking brakes are not Ferrari's fault for the brakes are made By Brembo...

    Come on everyone, give poor Ferrari a break...all these lemonade issues are the responsibility of the suppliers and not the manufacturer. The suppliers should have engineered their parts better for pette sakes ;) :)

    That's the feeling I get with my 2012. It's a huge kick in the pants. I love it. To me the gearbox works perfectly. The only thing I miss from the F430 is the mechanical "clang" I used to hear and feel as it shifted at high rpms.

    My understanding is that the challenge cars are a different box. But I could be wrong.

    Different brake pad wear can be caused by taking the wrong procedure to "break them in" or a wrong warming up procedure. You can not only "rape" the tires but the brakes as well by wrong procedures.

    "Flushing out water" can be avoided by preparing the car prior o track use.

    regards
    Johnny

    3. Now it makes sense. They over tightened the nipples during assembly, and the soft aluminum thread is now stripped, this would cause the leak. I doubt the caliper has been replaced, they probably just replaced the actual nipple. This could have been damaged by a shop if you did some sort of track preparation that included a brake fluid flush.

    4. Wheels have nothing to do with brake pads. The Italia can run 19" wheels as well, Ferrari put 20" wheels for show, but tires in those sizes are crap. Challenge pads fit the street car, long lasting, and cheaper than the street pads. All race cars use different brake fluid: Endless, SRF, RBF660 are great fluids. I use SRF.

    You must be kidding. Do you really think customers should bring their car to Brembo or Getrag? The seller of a product is responsible for all it's parts whether made in house or purchased. What would you say if a car company said "not my fault" my supplier screwed up.

    I don't think anyone is saying that. What he means is that the parts suppliers need to step up their game too.

    Certainly and ultimately, it's Ferrari's responsibility. And, they are the ones to fix it.

    I was completely kidding, I was being sarcastic...thats why I had the ;) :)

    It's up to the manufacture to make sure their cars stands up to the riggers of the driving their marketing departments are selling to their buyers. Whether it is a Range Rover on the savana plains or Porsche/ Ferrari providing quick, reliable, durable lapping at our local track.

    apologize for going head on but this reasoning is unacceptable for me. Ferrari chose these suppliers because the way it performs with the 458 and is sufficient enough for Ferrari's standards. now, if these things fail, it still is the responsibility of Ferrari to remedy the things that should be fixed.

    the fact that you bought the 458 as a whole (didn't buy the brake from brembo or transmission from getrag separately), with the money spent by the customer, I strongly urge that Ferrari should face its clients and attend to the problems that the customers are facing.

    Hi, please this is a serious question & i would like a real answer from people who know, thanks:
    Do all 458’s have these sorts of problems (in general I mean not brake specific?) If not used for track days.thankyou
