Today's my six month anniversary with The Ferrari Market Letter; to mark the occasion, Gerald & Carol gave me a model. It is, without question, the coolest model in my entire collection. A BBR Breadvan, s/n 2819. The paintjob represents a period in time of the Breadvan's life after it raced. Count Volpi lent the Drogo-bodied SWB to a friend to drive home. The next day, the friend went to his butler and said, since the car looks like a hearse, paint it black. The butler painted it black, but ran out of paint. With what little he had left, he painted the two stripes across the front of the car... This is an awesome model and a HUGE addition to my collection... :)

Yes, 2819, currently owned by Monte Shalett in Louisianna, is currently painted red; below, a picture of what the car looks like today...

Fern, i'll get some pictures of the Stradale up soon, in a new thread...

Erik, thanks; i DID give it up, but it's really not a big deal if i have them with a meal and i just finished lunch and brought it back to my desk... :)

I have that model too. One of my favorites, but I did not know the butler story. Is it true or "urban legend"??

LOL, you tell Mr. Montgomery i said hello... :) See you soon, buddy...

Thanks, everyone... It's a really awesome model and, like i said, a huge addition to my collection... i'll relish in the hope to see the Breadvan again, this year, in New Orleans...

Armen, you might be able to find one but they're very scarce and, from what i understand, prices corroborate said scarcity...

Doc, the story is definitely true; the Breadvan has had a very interesting life... You can find that story plus others in a recent issue ot Cavallino; i'll find out the issue and post it later...

The BBR model is now "obsolite", but it is possible to find one if you look hard enough. Some shop in Europe should still have one...

Hey Carbon, thanks for reminding me, my collection is worthless without " La Camionette" is that a 1:43?
Once I heard that 1:43 separates the men from the boys...
    anyone agrees?

    Martin, yes, it's 1:43...

i've heard that as well; i guess it's just a matter of taste and preference... i love 1:18 models and 1:24, 1:3X, 1:43 and 1:59-1:64 really round out my collection... i will always buy different scale models; i don't ever see myself getting anything larger than 1:18, but that's just me... Gerald's got some 1:14 models here in the office that are really nice and they're not TOO big...

If it's the prices of the 1:43s that supposedly 'separate the men from the boys', then 1:14s, 1:12s & 1:3s certainly separate the men from the boys when compared to 1:43s... It should never be about price or worth; just about what you like...

2819 isn't my first 1:43, but all my others pale in comparison; most of them are in boxes in Bruce's garage, a thousand miles away from here; but i have a few here in the office, that i'll post pictures of...
