If you don't mind my asking, why another P3/P4/412 than a pre-war Scuderia Ferrari Alfa?
See! I was right. It is a Ferrari! Congratulations. Maybe it is time to do a remake of Lemans, the movie? Dale ps If you do, can the Ferrari win this time?
Good Lord...buys a Maser and forgets LM the movie had 512S Coda Lungas. Image Unavailable, Please Login
You know, I was thinking the same thing until I actually read the question and realized what I was about to say. -Chris
Damn Jim, just.........damn. If you ever need storage, I know of a place in Texas far away from the former Rob Lay lean-to. Congrats on yet another amazing car.
Everybody has a thing for certain types of cars ... I think we are close to working out what pushes Jim's button I'm just hoping that there was a 250 LM running that year at Le Mans ... Pete
Beautiful! I believe that is the car I saw at the Portland vintage races last summer. It looked great in person. Congrats on the new acquisition!
So 0846 was originally a spyder, and 0854 was a coupe, but both are currently sporting the wrong/opposite bodywork. Fate has a weird way of working out. Thankfully they are both in your hands (and I can hear the whine & cheese crowd around the world collectively writhing their own hands at the thought). Thanks for being a little rock-n-roll in an easy-listening universe, Jim. -Chris
Jim. Belated congratulations on your latest acquisition. Looks like someone needs to update 'Barchetta' again: http://www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Ferraris/Detail/0854.412P.htm Interesting to see that it comes with the original berlinetta tail section from 1967 - a nice touch. I wonder what happened to the original '67 nose clip ? - the one with the single large air duct in the upper lip of the radiator opening, above the splitter (the same as '#0846' should have, of course). Looks like it had already been replaced by Piper (probably with a fibreglass nose section), as early as mid-'68. For those who may have missed these links, previously, some photos of #0854 (and Jim's other P4) in the paddock at Laguna Seca, last year, are posted here and some particularly nice detailed shots of #0854 here.
Jim. With the correct original body configurations, and paint schemes, you could, of course, number them both as #23 - from Daytona and Le Mans, 1967, if you so chose to .... Maybe #20 from Le Mans is not such a good idea
When I look at old picks of LM, I squint and try to spot Mr. G's cars. I've come to the conclusion that he now owns half the grid from those races, so spotting is easier.
Now before 'we' to try to baffle 'em with B/S, Jim .... I think we ought to put the record straight: #0848 started life (as a 330P3), always was, and still is (as a 412P) a berlinetta. See: http://www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Ferraris/Detail/0848.330P3.htm Never a spyder. It was just #0846 that spent it's life in that configuration - remember ?
Yes, possibly - the obvious 'details' being to replace the carburettor 'hump' area with the louvred deck, but did you also notice that the tail section currently fitted to #0854 doesn't have the lower auxiliary tail-lamps, nor the recesses to take them, either, Jim ? Why not a P3/4 Spyder; a P4 Berlinetta; a 412P and a 350 Can-Am ? One of each ! What the heck, Jim - sell Glickenhaus & Co., and GO for it ....! If it's good enough for Bardinon / Medlin and Stroll (all past 2 x 'P4' owners), why not ?
Wow, congrats Jim on yet another fine purchase. so now you have one for use when its sunny and one for when its raining, all you need now is one you can fit the kids into
i get it ! wow! thank you for taking the time to explain. think of all the things that had to happen a certain way for you to own BOTH cars with each others mis-matched pieces, only to set things right YEARS later. 002C, the Duesy and J6 will surely be proud. way to go! ps if you make another "book" on 0854 / 0846 , please put me down for one !
Nope. You must learn to read more carefully. (Barchetta is often wrong and may be in this case but this is what they wrote) "67 Barchetta Aug 27 5th OA Ollon-Villas hillclimb Herbert Muller" In the index to the page you cite they also list the car as: "330 P3 Fantuzzi Spyder s/n 0848" The tail 0848 had at Monza 66 had the dual rounded openings that I spoke of instead of the single square one that's on the car today. I believe that 0846's P3 Spyder Tail also had them but it's P 3/4 tail didn't. As for the missing lights it's a good thing I have an extra set of them. The single nostril will of course be restored on both cars. 0858 is stamped into the spyder tail now on 0854 so the carb/FI panel could have been swapped but as I said when I look at it closely I'll be able to tell.
Excellent work Jim - and you've already had the same thought as me about putting 0846 back to a spyder..................... At the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 1997, we had 0844 (in Can-Am form), 0850 and 0854..........will we get three together on track again one day, I wonder. Paul M
Hi my Friend I remember it well. As you know I was there with a yellow car that those Ferrari's didn't like much. Best
