Larson had an actual sponsor (Valvoline) on the car too, not just Hendrick Cars. good to see

I was at the Falcons game so I DVR'd it, just got done watching. I've been watching nascar for 30 years and have never seen anything like that. I'm not even sure I understand how it worked. New respect for Chastain after that.

Obviously something that wouldn't work in open-wheel racing!

I've been a NASCAR fan for 35 years and that's the craziest move I've seen.

unfortunately a committee inside the wood paneled walls in Daytonner are figuring out how to ban that move as we speak :(

Roger Penske's teams win the IndyCar and NASCAR Cup championships in the same year. Believe it or not, that had never happened before!

I don't like NASCAR racing, but lately I've been watching a bunch of YouTube on history and technical related stuff. Besides Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s channel, the Stapleton42 channel is great meeting with former drivers and team owners, touring shops and tracks.

Still can't believe it is going to happen. They have the track in Joliet that used to run NASCAR, and it may be torn down soon. Also Road America, the best race track in the country for fans is not far. But this will be kind of cool with the big skyscrapers in the background. This is in downtown Chicago, not Englewood. They also should have a new Mayor by this summer.

Yah but....how is this different in pure racing excellence compared to the LA Coliseum? I said 'racing'........not entertainment, or corporate entertainment..i.e., uh, 'The race is boring...let's go get a steak. You like Cabernet, right?' Sorry....that's what this 'race' is about.

This LA Coliseum thing is embarrassing. I wonder if there’s ever been a smaller crowd there.

Cypress Hill was the opening band for the race, I wonder how bad the smell was from all the dank weed getting lit up?

BTW, this is really hard to watch. Why not race at Sears point?

SVG’s first time in Nascar and he pulls off a win? Should Nascar be embarrassed? A lot of drivers got screwed by the untimely decision to shorten the race in the midst of put stops

SVG is an amazing talent, fast in everything.

and he competes in a series (V8 Supercars) that is basically NASCAR on street circuits.

so not a mega surprise, and not something NASCAR should be embarrassed about. props to Trackhouse for seeing the obvious opportunity there.

In retrospect, NASCAR should have decided to shorten the race either before or after the whole field had made pit stops. But SVG was one of those that was compromised by the decision and still made it from 18th place to 1st, so give him credit for doing what others couldn't. I thought that Bell would be able to do the same, but he got caught up in that multi-car wreck that blocked the track.

I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the pavement and the ability of cars to make passes. I was also surprised that most of the cars that made contact did so with the walls (or tire barriers) and not with other cars.

First driver to win his first-ever Cup race start since Johnny Rutherford (!) in 1963, sixty years ago! His Kiwi mate, IndyCar's Scott McLaughlin, ought to be pleased.

The track didn't look as bad as I thought, although alot of cautions. Glad to see a New Zealand driver win first time out. Judging by some of the down under races I have seen he should be used to tight street circuits like this.

Easily the best race of the weekend
Like most I thought this would be a disaster but it was pretty fun
Great competition, and amazing seeing a champ in Cup car for first time (with wheel & shifter on opposite sides of what he usually drives) power past champs like Elliott, Busch and Larson. Def a feel-good story.

In the rain! I watched the last half with the sound off. Did they ever get to full slicks?

I stopped raining before the race started. Got more rain on Sunday then Chicago had in the last 90 days, go figure. Race slicks run most of the race.

I wonder how long it will take NYC or LA to decide they want a NASCAR race in their city streets.

I was thinking the same thing. I've seen NASCAR races referred to as "taxicab" races, so maybe the cars should be all painted yellow!
