T, The car is sold. I have a contract. It's going to a warmer climate. Thanks for the interest and i'm sorry for the confusion. Regards, Tom
Two things I couldn't do with my 80 Mondial 8. Get it started and keep it running very long and Give it away. I finally traded it in to an authorized Ferrari dealer on another purchase. He sold it twice on Ebay and the buyer backed out both times. I do like the later coupes, however. Good luck selling it. Mileage doesn't seem to me to be that big of an issue once you get past 50,000.
"You should be honored that i've taken the time to even answer your inane post. I'd like to have a battle of wits with you but I don't fight the unarmed." Cute quote...still doesn't make your car more valuable . I understand the defensive posteuring...but you put a huge amount of miles on your car...you didn't think it would hurt its value? Tom, I have worked on cars in the past...porsches, buicks, and oldsmobiles. I am familiar with the internal workings of an engine. Thank you. Sorry, ferrari's are NOT as durable as other cars. I base this opinion on everything I have read/ learned on this site, and from speaking to my mechanic. To claim a ferrari motor/gearbox is as reliable as other cars (japanese specifically) is ludicrous...I think you make this point for me- your car already needed an engine replacement!!!! Geesh. Kind of argues aginst reliability, doesn't it??? To see a porsche with 150,000 miles isn't an oddity - and you can still sell it. Been there, done that. Same for japanese cars, mercedes, etc... Only in a ferrari, can the motor/trans go out despite appropriate maintenance... examples... 1) 355 valve guides 2) 355 mainfolds 3) testarossa transaxles/diffs breaking 4) belts snapping (insane - they last 100k miles on a toyota) 5) suspensions wearing out after 50k miles 6) catalysts disentergrating after 20k miles 7) If it has a gasket...it will leak... 8) Synchro's shot after 50k miles...(yep, this is where the trans gets rebuilt...insane you say...) etc, etc, etc Folks claim that it is a ferrari buyers "preconception" that ferraris aren't durable, and hence people won't buy high mileage ones. its not just preconception, its fact... Reading through the chat site here, was quite an eye opening experience when I first got here. Coming from a porsche site, most threads were on increasing performance, tracking, etc. On a ferrari site, many more threads seem to be deicated to fixing problems/ discussing why things break/ and where to get parts. Don't get me wrong, I am enjoying my ferrari so far, but I would NEVER claim nor believe that it was as reliable as other cars. It is a low volume/low production car, and it will have issues...hopefully later rather than sooner... Why don't porsche buyers have the same preconception that high mileage cars are a risk? Aren't they equally educated, astute, and financially well off (at least close)? Have some ferraris' gone >100,000 miles with no problems? Sure. Is that typical, probably not. Ferrari's break more often than other cars...get over it. A highmileage ferrari has more parts that are worn, and they are ungodly expensive to replace, realize this... A 90,000 mile car will be VERY difficult to sell...sorry. I hope you got a good price...and congrats on selling. The best way to prove me wrong is to sell for a huge amount of money! edit:just realized your car has greater than 90,000miles. I thought it was 70,000...Thats even worse .
Micheal Wilhoit asked me..."You know why most Ferraris are low mileage?" "Why?" "Because they don't run long enough to be high mileage!" Then he took my life's savings....what a kidder!
Tom, If your first deals fall through, I heard that Dave Helms's 21 year old daughter Nicki is looking for another Mondial, she had a QV once. She has just inherritted some money from her Grandmother and is ready to buy a car. Dave who is a Ferrari F40 specialist in Colorado can help her with the maintence. I knows she does her own maintence, she did on the last car, under parental supervision, naturally. Let's see if the clock will then get to that magic 100,000 number The car could then can start life as a low mileage car all over again and meet a novice Ferrari buyers buying criteriea. Nicki can be found at Scuderia Rampante in Colorado BUT!! only call her with a Mondial, she doesn't need any more dates or boyfriends! Tom Shaughnessy Mondial Match Maker bzz bzzz
Now THIS will draw her out from lurker status! I warned all of you, this is what happens when you say nice things about Tom! Just before our vacation I said 1 nice thing about Tom to someone and here it comes. Tom, you had better hope she is still lathargic from the Jamaican parties! Dave
Dave, LOL. Don't worry. I have no intention of contacting your daughter. I'm 52 years old, two great children, and a wonderful wife who has put up with my baggage for 28 years. Besides, my wife would kill me. You would also ...for selling your daughter another Mondial. Tom S......Stop trying to cause trouble. Regards, Tom
Dave, That information is the buyer's to give or not to give. With all due respect to the members of FerrariChat, this forum, at times, can resemble sharks in a feeding frenzy. If any details of the deal were to be revealed there would surely ensue a "spirited" discussion. Even when there is nothing to discuss. Sorry, but I will not put the buyer through that, or, for that matter, myself. Regards, Tom
Just a quick note to say "Thank you !" to all who helped me by responding on this forum and in PM's. The deal is done and I and Scarlet's new owner are satisfied. The new owner granted me visitation privileges, but i'll still miss her. Best regards, Tom
