I have finally taken the plunge and purchased another Ferrari to add to my collection of cars. Pictures will follow. For everyone who knows me, yes I am keeping my 360 forever (of course, already 23 years and counting!) but I always fancied a Ferrari with a V12 in it.. I thought I'd try a 4 seat Ferrari too as I love the looks of the FF and Lusso. The known PTU and DCT issues have always been a bit concerning to say the least so my solution has been to buy an example with a full extended Ferrari Power Warranty covering the vehicle for at least the next couple of years and see how I get on. Unfortunately the example I was able to source was heavily optioned on the inside but it did NOT come equipped with any of the external carbon options (it is at least Black so its less visible than on a light color). I would however have specified the exterior carbon myself if I was buying it new. I thought I'd just have to accept it but I got chatting to a friend who put me in touch with an official Ferrari Main dealer parts dept. who is having a bit of a clear out of older parts (with the GTC4 no longer being made they are keen to get shut). They have offered me items such as the Carbon Mirror cases, and all the bits I wanted at prices I am willing to pay. On the mirrors front I haven't even seen another GTC4 or FF with carbon mirrors, where they even on the original options list? Or where they offered only later or is it because I assume they share the same mirrors with the 812? Anyway I wanted to buy genuine OEM carbon parts from my dealer, lower sills, front fender carbon, etc. but it got me thinking about the WARRANTY. Its a bone stock car and ofcourse all the options originally fitted by Ferrari are listed in the trunk, so if these carbon parts where now fitted, sills, kick plates, fenders carbon, front lip and rear spoiler would Ferrari have grounds to cancel my warranty? One person I spoke to said if it was fitted by the Dealer then it is OK but if its supplied by the dealer and not fitted by them maybe not. Since the dealer is nearly 3,000 km away from me I could have a problem with them fitting the parts Anyone know ? Thanks! Trev
Congratulations on the Lusso and joining the V12 party. I can’t answer the question on warranty refusal for the carbon parts if you fit them yourself but could you have the dealer from 3,000km away ship them to your local Ferrari dealer for fitting? That way, you’d have authorised parts fitted by an authorised dealer so the warranty will definitely remain intact.
Thank you! Haven't even driven it yet, its still awaiting registration this coming week. Its all a bit complicated unfortunately. There are no official Ferrari dealers where I live. I purchased it via a local Ferrari specialist (non-franchise) dealer who sourced it from a franchise dealer in Germany, mainland Europe (and they paid 27k for the Power Warranty to be honored by Ferrari) so potentially it could go to a dealer in Spain (for whom which I would have no relationship) so I would prefer to avoid this unless strictly necessary. The supplying franchise dealer seem to think the carbon parts can be fitted anywhere but maybe I will get them to ask the question officially back to Ferrari Italy just to be on the safe side!
It sounds like some remedial work was required ahead to warranty application as the NP warranty cost is only 5k pa. I think you’re best to get everything in writing. Although Ferrari would have a tough time rejecting a mechanical claim on the basis of cosmetic changes to the car, the warranty is far from cast iron and Ferrari can basically reject pretty much any claim if they feel like it as there are so many get-out clauses, the most obvious one being the ‘abuse’ clause. I understand your concerns about the PTU and DCT but they’re repairable for the cost of 2 years of warranty so most owners choose to self-insure.
Thanks ANOpax. Q. Is there a way to get the trunk plaque updated when having Ferrari themselves supply and fit the genuine CF accessories at the dealer? Has anyone else tried? Or is this basically a dead end.. ?
I don’t know for sure but there is a service where the car can be returned to the factory/Zanasi for a rebuild to a new spec. I believe that the plaque is then updated. I recall this happening to an F12 TDF which was returned for a re-spec and rebuild. I’ll see if I can find the thread. Unfortunately, I think this goes beyond what you anticipated…
That's a pretty impressive end result but way beyond where I want to take this, lol. I have done some pretty crazy projects myself but that project won't be repeated very often that's for certain! In the case of my Lusso just fitment of the original spec optional carbon items which look pretty simple and quick to have fitted at a dealer.
I was at Rosso Corsa and looked at the red LussoT in November, they told me the black V12 was sold! Congrats!
