I respectfully disagree, Higgens has no hips which make her legs look odd, and she looks like she works out continually which means no body fat anywhere. I happen to enjoy well distributed body fat. YMMV

I have to say...I was expecting to hate it but am actually kind of digging it.
The opening episode was to much. To many crashes, explosions etc.
It’s settled in to just a fun show though. It very much reminds me of 80s shows.
Not to serious, a bit corny but fun to watch at the same time.
I thought in this day and age they would over load it with violence and sex but they keep it toned down to a good level.
I like the relationship with Magnum and Higgins. So good digs but they seem to be friends.
I wish they would put a new 308 in it. Come on......Robin Masters can afford it.
I like hearing Magnum talk about Detroit and his Dad. It adds a little insight to the character.

I am still enjoying it although the only time I get to see the original 308 now is in the opening theme and for very short flashes. I am warming up to the show nicely though and still look forward to it on Monday nights. I am also foolishly waiting to see a 308 reappear in some episode, maybe Robin wants the old car back in the stable so he gets a new one kind of thing. I love the 488 though, glad they are showing it often.

THe 'Who is Robin Masters' thing isn't over, because the original was not 'Higgins is Robin Masteers', it was 'Higgins writes Robin Master's books'. Still could apply.

They blew it on the first episode. RM is a friend from back in the Iraq conflict.

    No more mystery.

Was home this week and caught last nights episode ( TC is a football coach and players father accused of murder). As much as I wanted to hate it, it wasn’t bad. No superhuman feats certainly helped and you see a brief shot of the 308 being driven from time to time in the promotional Ads. Guess I’ll just have to look at it in the same manner as the bond series where Bond character changes through the years.

In the original, Masters let Magnum stay at the estate in return for some security work while Higgins was Master's 'Major Domo', the estate manager.
So, since Masters's role was changed from employer to friend, this totally eliminates any possible 'Higgins writes Masters' scenario? I think that's a premature conclusion, though who knows if the series will get to last long enough to address it. The 'Higgins is Robin Masters' arc only came into the fore in the last two seasons of the original, after all. It wasn't a thing from the start, or for years.

    I suppose.

But in episode 1, magnum told us RM is a journalist friend who they met when he was covering the war in Iraq. His character has already been established as a writer so a character twist of Higgins ghost writing for him just wouldn't be a big bombshell. More of a "big deal" kind of thing.

But that is just my opinion, I could be wrong.

But, yeah, you're correct about the original Higgins/Masters thing popping up late. I was in that show from day one and will go to my grave believing that idea didn't occur to the show's writers until late in the series.

    Watched a trailer,
Magnum without a pornstache? Doesn't work at all.
Absolutely not for me. Some things should remain in the past.

I agree. There are episodes earlier on in the original series that show Higgins by himself in his study talking to Robin Masters on the phone, if they were one in the same and Higgins was trying to hide the fact why would he stage a private conversation with Robin Masters when no one was around to hear or see it.

    There are a bunch.

Watch "Italian Ice" again. It is one of the strongest examples they are two different people. More than J "Digger" Doyle, in my opinion.

I never got the impression that Higgins WAS Robin Masters. I got the impression that Magnum suspected Higgins wrote some or most or all of the novels that Robin Masters was supposed to have. I don't remember how Magnum and Masters crossed paths, but I always thought he was real. Same for the new Masters, he definitely exists He'll probably play as big a part in the new series as he did in the old - maguffin material, mostly.

This IS TV we're talking about, here, after all. For all we know, Robin Masters is Batman.

Yes but later in the show Magnum's suspicions on Higgins, he had many believe including myself that the show took a turn on the possibility that Higgins could in fact be Robin Masters.

    everyone knows that

But in the early years the show was clearly written in a way that he was not RM and it was obvious that the idea was not even on their mind. I have never said it wasn't a cool story twist, I simply have pointed out that, for those that watched it every single week from the start like myself, it was abundantly clear that the writers had no intention of exploring that possibility when the show started. Waaaaaay too many problems.

But now that Hillerman is dead and another show is on the air, there will never be a reunion style episode where the issue is all cleared up. That ship sailed and all that is left is us and the debate. :D

Like Dr. Tommy pointed out in a previous thread in the Italian ice episode they make quite a few references of Robin. One in particular is when the Countess says to Higgins I remember when you meaning Higgins and Robin and my father would play chess and you would beat them both. Implying they were all in the same place at the same time.
