Yes, my childhood hero and even though I occasionally curse him for not being in our corner, the world would be a far poorer place without him.

Hope he recovers soon. I read like a week ago he got the flu???? Then this happened.

 

The car has been badly beaten and now is getting old also. It´s normal that it needs some work from time to time.

 

Supposedly most of his health problems arose over the years from having had his lungs seared by the burning fumes from his accident. Maybe with the new equipment he'll feel better than he has since the fateful crash. Here's hoping...

 

I heard he performed the operation himself.

 

Will Lauda be penalised with some grid penalty at the next GP though ...

Metaphors aside, I think at best he'd qualify for P2/3 on the starting grid. But then, he's almost 70

 

His doctor just confirms that Niki's long transplant went OK and that he will recover slowly, but completely (source: Austrian TV).

 

Lauda is certainly resiliant

 

Lauda - What an amazing life story. I wish him well on his recovery and equipment upgrade.

My understanding is that him breathing in the toxic contents of the fire extinguishers did more damage than the flames, and it was these that coated his lungs making it hard to breath and had to be removed at the time in a very unpleasant and painful procedure

IMHO one of the coolest F1 drivers ever.

 

And why would that not surprise me.

 

The first season of F1 that hooked me was the Hunt/Lauda epic, and I really didn't have favorites yet, I just loved the racing, so I hope he makes a speedy recovery.
