What is BBCC? This guy is from Sacramento and was here looking at (I believe) a Datsun up the street that a neighbor has for sale. The guy from Sacramento--from what I gather--is a classic car dealer. His wife saw the Dino as they were driving down the street and mentioned it to her husband asking, "Is that a Maserati under that cover?". So he stopped to ask about it. When I said it was a Dino, he didn't quite seem to know what I was talking about. When I removed the cover, he asked if it had a V8 and when I said, "It does", he suddenly knew a lot more about 308/gt4's than he seemed to know about Dino's. So he simply may not have recognized what it was at first. That's when he started pressing me to sell it to him. Raphael at Arroyo will complete it for $15K. I think that would put it in the $60K range, because literally "everything" will have been done both mechanically and cosmetically. Since it's already been prepped for that, I think $45K is not a bad price for something that is demonstrably going up in value. $40K is a better price for a buyer and his asking me "$40K?" puts us in the same price-range. But with some of the cars that have been put on a spindle to be repainted (I don't think this one needs that), listed for $90K, I'm more inclined to keep it and finish it, than let it go for any less. I need a good incentive to sell.
Dont do it Barretta! David, After all you work dont you want to get it back together and enjoy it? $45 is waw too low. with a rebuilt engine the car should be closer to 80K, but thats not the point. Are you in that big a hurry to sell it????? Rob
Hi Robert, No I'm not in that big of a hurry. But selling it would enable a few other things that I've had to put off while saving the money to complete the car. It's a kind of Catch-22 in that respect. So the offer is intriguing. I know that rebuilt cars are over $80K (asking), but selling at that level takes time and patience. I do want to complete it and get the chance to drive it again; the car is a blast to drive. But right now it is at risk in my driveway. I have no place to properly store it. So....???? I don't know.... tough call.
Sorry. BHCC. Beverly Hills Car Club. They have people posing as buyers for them all over snapping up projects but their inventory does seem to be pretty full these days with a lot of cars sitting as the Euro goes down. Kidding aside, in the current condition of your car I think $45k is pretty good. It sounds like you have been working on it for a long time, I can't fault you for thinking twice about selling. I'm not sure of everything that has been done on your car so far but I'm not sure $15k will finish it. I just revived my GT4 after sitting for 25 years and without any paint, rubber or engine rebuild I still spent $25k on all the deferred maintenance. I was quoted $10-$12k to get it back running but unexpected things like rebuilding the shocks, complete interior out repairs and conditioning, all new suspension bushings, powder coating all the suspension parts, rebuilding the steering rack, better used exhaust, new water pump, a few unexpected engine and transmission seals and $25k came quick. If I had to paint or rebuild the engine I'd probably have to get $80k to just break even. I think your car is a great color combo and GT4's still haven't hit their true valuations. They probably won't go back down unless the economy crashes and I think you will miss it more than you realize. I selfishly would like to see you finish it.
Thank you Jim, Luckily, I'm not that far down the road - $16K on an engine rebuild and $4500 on a gearbox reconditioning. The rest is solid, except for the top of the dash and the rear window, which I broke getting the motor out. So.... we'll see. Thank you. I like the color too, that's why I'm putting--thinking of putting--it back to original. Had to add the paranthetical, because now, I don't know what I'm doing and what I'm not going to do... decisions...decisions....decisions... I'd like to see me finish it too!
One of the last GT4s made #15584 up for auction. cool color combo. no affiliation. 1981 Ferrari 308 GT4 Dino | Coys of Kensington Image Unavailable, Please Login
The car in the picture is not marrone as claimed on Coy's web site. At least it doesn't appear marrone on a computer screen. And I seem to recall that exact picture appearing here and being described as a car in San Francisco.
interesting. I was wondering about it being a US spec car (pictured) with only mention of european history. maybe they havent photographed the actual car yet, since there are only 2 pictures shown.
Coys has (or had) a bit of a spotty reputation. You'd think they'd have pictures of the actual car by now.
Definitely not Marrone - the car in this thread is, and the two are very different: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328-sponsored-yellow-compass-group/472912-308-gt4-resurection.html
Hi All, I am looking to buy 4 Chromodora "Dino" 14" x 6.5" for my '75 GT4. Do not need concours, but prefer better than beat-up. Any leads/help appreciated and thanks. Jack Nelson [email protected] 516 729 7299
There used to be a lot of buzz about our gt4s. its been quiet for a while now. What are thoughts on the market for our cars? My car is in the body shop for another bare metal and respray, but the body shop estimates prices are making me back out. Thinking about just doing the minimum work in fear of putting to money in.
Checking completed listings on eBay will give some indication on pricing. Hard to say where prices will go in the future but they aren't making any more of them!
Understood guys. Not sure it matters where they are going, just wondering if prices are stabilizing and the value of a good gt4 { not concours} is gonna stay at 70k plus. There is a 75 gt4 on ebay that claims 23k miles and has the other type of campagnollo wheels asking like 129k or something like that, not sure if it has sold. but over last summer strilctly Ferrari sold the euro cars he had for 175k. I don't want to sell mine but for what the body shop is looking for makes me want to look at f430 or 355 or something. And BTW im always worried!
I've pretty much decided that I'm going to paint mine after our move to GA from CA settles out (sell the old house, buy a new, etc., etc). I'm painting it not to increase its value to a certain point, and not because without paint its value will only be a certain amount. I'm painting it because I want to, and because it'll make me enjoy the car more when I drive it, look at it, and share it with others... And that's why I bought the car in the first place.
Believe me I want to paint it. The body shop hours seem insane to me. I have owned this car since 2001. I just don't want to exceed the value.
Unfortunate that it matters to you, but if it does don't do it. I've always just considered this sort of thing as a running expense.
The buzz HERE has died down because these are no longer the cheapest Ferrari to buy. Now that poor condition cars are $45K and restored cars are WELL over $100K, a little less chatter but far more interest in the actual marketplace. I've had at least a half dozen offers on my completedly restored 75 in the past 6 months- and in no way is it for sale.
