What kind of amateur do you take me for? I’ve been here since 2003.

I’m going to start a thread titled, ‘Why would anyone buy a GTS when GTBs are so much better?”

I suspect that many in this lower-mid end of the market are like me where a good chunk of their assets are in cars and we have spouses or partners who put up with engine parts in the kitchen and occasional parts bills because “these are good investments Honey.”
I for one am glad that my 308 can now cover 3 years of private schooling instead of 2 and that may well be its fate.

I don't buy them as investments, but it sure helps me convince my wife to let me buy more when I can show that I am buying smart.

You only need to know how much your car is worth if you are planning on selling it, or to insure it.

Back about 1988, I was offered almost $100K for my 308 that i have today, and paid $20K for in 1984. I obviously didn't sell it.

Some one could offer me $500K today for my 308, and i wouldn't sell it. *However*, if someone offed me $1 Mil, I would probably let it go 'cuz I could buy a storage building and a half dozen other cars I want with that million.....

I DO need to know how much it would cost to replace if something happened to it, though.

The 1977 had a LOT of question marks i. e the oil gauge and clock were swaped.

I will be keeping my eyes open for couple cars i want. Not F-cars, other cars.

I did quite well in 2010/2011. Offered low ball bids, sellers said no, I left them my phone number. 4-6 weeks later, i got calls. They weren't perfect cars, they needed some finishing, but that wasn't a big deal.

Prices now on desirable American 1960s cars is ridiculous.

I just received this from Hagerty for my ‘78 GTS. Valid or not, I still smiled. I went through a “frustrated car not performing like it should because I’m an idiot” phase, but I’ve since pulled out of that nose dive.

The GTBs were overbought to begin with. GTSi were less desired, relatively undervalued and they will lose less in case there is a market drop for the next couple of years. It's just a couple of thousand $ of downside if bought right. Buyers who overpaid due to the hype/emotion will feel the pinch.

If you look at the report I posted, SCM had 308 GTS QV average at $59K. So at $57K, this is not a screaming bargain if you dont compare it to the dumb money retail buyers on BaT. It could have a lot of deferred maintenance or some thing else going on.

Not sure where your report gets its numbers, but when I was looking last year, I couldn't find anything in that range, BaT or not. Maybe I was looking in all the wrong places. You're right, of course, that we don't really know what it needs.

How things changed…. That add must have been watched by a 1/100 of what now a sale at BaT gets.maybe even a 1/1000

As you can see at the top of the page that you posted, SCM reports median values, not average. The numbers you see are not indicative of average values, they are the actual sales price at auction of the "middle" car over the period being reported on.
