I discovered this book this morning about the NART : https://www.motors-mania.com/fr/tous-nos-produits/11038-ferrari-in-america-luigi-chinetti-and-the-north-american-racing-team.html?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=flashsdays The one many of you expected ?
See post 7294 (22 August 2024) and much earlier posts as well. As of today they are still searching for photographs. Which (to me) means it's gonna take a couple more months, but I might be wrong, of course. Marcel Massini
Yes. The other is being written by Doug Nye with Luigi Chinetti, Jr., publication by Porter Press some time in 2025….”according to reports.”
Buying directly from Bull in France would probably cost more than this difference, since shipment costs are absurd and France also applies some custom duties.
Depending on the country, it might not be that interesting; "thanks" to Brexit there are also custom duties and VAT applied to things imported from the UK. Whereas within the EU, there are no custom duties and VAT has to be paid only in one country (either the exporting or importing country, but never both).
Well, there’s no duties between the US and the UK, and Horton’s claims on its website that they will pay the duties for orders over GBP50.- for European clients.
Well no customs duties within Europe... I thought so too but today here in France I will have to pay ten euros of "frais de douane" for a package containing three jackets I forgot -duh- in a hotel in Belgium last week. Very surprising, Last I checked both countries are EU...
Well lo and behold the package arrived (undamaged), I had my check book in hand but my kind post lady knew nothing about a €10 fee, in fact she laughed agreeing with me that it was ridiculous for something I already own coming from another EU country, so no duty, all good! If such a bill arrives here they can invoice me to death, those will go in the trash like when I receive something from the UK, they give up after a few tries: I will not pay for Stupidexit's messy consequences.
Unfortunately I was right with my low confidence in Horton's-Hammerdown very recent "Bebbington Sale" book auction on Live Auctioneers. The results were dismal; if I were the people at Hammerdown, etc. I would be very embarrassed to say the least. There were a total of 417 lots in the sale, each lot contained one book. Out of that 417.... only 21 were sold, and at LOW prices. I've seen enough to know better over the years, so I do not in any way believe that this is a good indication, or barometer of the market for where ALL good collectible book sales are. All anyone has to do is look to many other more well known auction houses and specialists other than the one mentioned, and you''ll see very many good results & sales. I stand by all of what I wrote in my post #7328.
As far as (not) discounting is concerned, the following Palawan title is discounted, albeit not by the publisher but by german retailer 'Sportfahrer Zentrale': https://www.sportfahrer-zentrale.com/de/buecher/englische-buecher/racing-through-europe-the-motor-sport-photography-of-brian-joscelyne-circuit-graphic-cover
@Lusso123 Without sounding like a know it all, I (and with a slightly more optimistic outlook you) predicted as much. No surprises here with those results.
Mark, glad to know you predicted this as well. I truly wish the results with that sale had been good. My full time work/business for too many years now has been in the automotive collectibles field.... Since I was specifically mentioned, and with regard to "know it all" I'm not exactly sure how to read/take your post... that's why, for many interactions, I prefer phone conversations with clients, friends, associates, etc. Of course I realize that's impossible with forums such as this. Maybe I'm just a little thin skinned... That said, sometimes what is written can be easily (and often) misconstrued by all parties, which I've been on both ends of a number of times, so I'll just leave it at that.
Yes, you seem very thin skinned I think you completely missed the point. I was saying WITHOUT sounding like a know it all for both of us meaning we both predicted it but due to our knowledge of the industry. It was a positive, tongue in cheek comment, please take it as such.
Thank you. Yup, I missed it. Can I blame it on reading glasses? Sometimes (maybe all the time!) my interpretation skills , as in lack of, show themselves.
Can someone give me a price indication for the TOFM magazines. The series is from number 1 to 2023. What is reasonable to pay for this? And are the magazines an added value or is it too general? Thanks in advance for your response
I would put this down to that, while Palawan itself may be willing to keep dead stock for decades, most other business are not so inclined. At some point, they want to move old merchandise out, and that typically means discounts.
They are not what they used to be like back in the mid 1990's. Now much more of a lifestyle, puff piece, coffee table style, owners magazine. Great to have in the waiting room for a cosmetic surgeon so his patients knows he owns a Ferrari.
