I think the overwhelming consensus among collectors in this space is that the recent big rise in values for the important CT is correcting upward to values relative to the collector car market.

I don't think its just me that thinks that whatever the overall collector car market does as a whole (up or down or up and down, etc.) there is an entire generation of collectors that are just now entering their peak earning potential who have this as the ideal dream car. That generation is 40-55 now, and for another very long time, this market will affect CT values relative to the rest of the market. I for one don't see anything out of wack (no matter what the market does) that the original line of cars that lead to the Aventador, would be worth double the Aventador. As I look at the relative market I canno think of anything at 1-2M that is prefer. I know that's not everyone, but I'm not alone. I doubt that most of these cars are going to hedge funds, but rather to very wealthy collectors who simply want to fulfill a dream. 14 years ago I spent upwards of $250k on a special CT (the Alpine QV DD) that I sent to Bobileff to restore. I probably had the worlds most expensive CT at the time and I didn't give a rip, it was not ever going to be for sale so it didnt matter, and if I could have only one collector car, "there was only one."

    Great post.

Meanwhile, the Countach continues to perform, and we are at number 6 in just over a month.

I tried this question on the other thread. I had the impression that these cars were all of a sudden worth upwards of half a million.

Why this price for this car?

My insurance company would love to know after arguing for a higher agreed value.

    Anyone?

The reason is that although CT are valuable cars, this variant will always be by far the least valuable. It is a FI car with very ugly spec bumpers, and side skirts. To get this car into the US they really butchered the cars, This is a vey expensive car to put property into spec that is very desirable. So you will see that reflected in the value.

Out of curiosity, where does the 25th's value stand, have any been sold recently?
I'm not interested in selling, only wondering if there is any new data.

First the Anniversary was the least, then the 2-valve was the least. Now this one.
Sorry, but it gets confusing. I appreciate your response but not sure I can make sense of
    this one.

I'd say a nice one is trending around $250k plus.

The Anniversary has never been the least valuable or least desirable.
To be clear a CT, any CT is very desirable and very valuable.
The 2 Valve Injected (US) spec car is probably the most affordable, followed by ...
Who knows but my opinion is...
88 1/2 FI car would be next most affordable. Notice I haven't said least desirable.
I have no idea the outrageous quotes to make a beautiful car now on eBay, being suggested that in order to make it right would cost a fortune? No it wouldn't. It just wouldn't to replace the bumper, any other mods are not required but a matter of preference.

Different variants go in & out of favor.

The 2-valve fuel-injected version was always seen as a power-sapped post-production application set up by the USA concessionaire, and I believe its these factors that limited its value.

The USA fuel-injected version was seen in its original configuration as unattractive, and this is underscored by how many people convert them to the Euro look. The dilemma of this conversion, both costs and changing the car from originality, are the factors that limited its value.

IMO at any point in time from the heady days of $350k cars in 1990 to the lowly days of $85k cars of the past decade, I always valued a nice Anniversary above the 2 variants aforementioned.

I agree with Joes statements on the injected cars,

Overall Value wise I've always had it: lp400, low body, QVDD, LP carb, no bumpers or skirts, then anniversary, and 87-88, with US bumpers/skirts.

Of course everyone has their favorite. There are many amazing cars and rare and special stand outs. For me three variants are generally special and will always command high values:, the LP400, the low body and the QVDD. As for a favorite I agree with Valentino Balboni: and chose the QV DD, but I sure would like a low body and an LP 400! So I hope I'm wrong and the market crashes!

You have to account for DD Anniversarios. I for one prefer the car over DD QV.

Interesting thread, seems I always find these late in the game. I will follow it carefully now, my plan is to put mine back to stock this coming winter and go through the engine, then sell it. Its been fun the last 20+ years but I'm looking for a little comfort and luxury these days.

Everyone has their favorite variants. When I was shopping for mine, LP400 doesnt do anything for me. As for 2 valve cars, I needed more power to be satisfied. Anniversary's are over done (although I almost bought two in the past). Which leads me to my favorite the QV. At the time I could not find a nice DD, so I settled for a FI and lived happily ever after :) In the end a Countach is a Countach. They all leave solid impressions on anyone who is lucky enough to see one

I was being sarcastic. I agree that a Countach is a Countach is a Countach!
My OP was about feeling mislead about the value of these cars. I busted my ass to convince
my insurance company to raise my agreed value and then I see a car like the one on ebay being sold by a Lamborghini dealer for half of what I thought they were worth.
I don't give a rat's ass how much my car is worth being I don't derive my income from the value of it. I just needed to know what to insure it for based on info from the "Lamborghini community".
It seems when a large price is attained for one of these cars, the posts go on for days. Then what looks to be a low price, it got silent.
If at this point the answer is "your guess is as good as mine", then fine.

Well said. For 99.9% of the population that’s what it’s all about. For the enthusiasts it’s all subjective. For the collectors, well…. I’m just happy I got in before the lock. Missed out on the 300SL 20 years ago and passed up too many BB’s to count. If I was in the market right now I’d consider this car at 200-225. Anything more and I’d be out of this market too. IBTL skirts and all ;)
