To try to clarify further let me quote part of the company letter "the last non-anniversary unit built for the United States market" To me that is specific to mean the last 4valve INJECTED car. Which was the version developed for the U.S. market. KLA12424 is the vin. So somebody would have to know if other 88.5 DD cars were still made after this as I am not sure. It does "seem" to me that most 88.5 cars were injected and sent to the U.S. but certainly not all ie Roys cars. There is no doubt though that it was the last U.S. "fuelie" as sometimes called, which for sure is its own series. Personally I like that fact and Love the color. Red, black, white.. I love them all but the rare colors I think add value and make the cars stand out more, and amongst countachs, that's not easy.
Ken , thanks for the clarification. that letter seems to hint it is not the last QV but it is not certain. This is the MY90. I am unaware a later QV was built after that car. To know that we would need help from our friends in europe. To me the car is more valuable if it turns out to be the last QV of all. last know QV DD I know is KLA12415 in europe
I believe that the K in europe vin codes indicates a model year of 1989. I'm sure someone can figure out if there were other QV's built after this one. What's the vin of the first Anniv car? that would also be interesting to know imo.
Vehicle Identification Number In 1981, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the United States standardized the format.[1] It required all over-the-road-vehicles sold to contain a 17-character VIN, which does not include the letters I (i), O (o), or Q (q) (to avoid confusion with numerals 1 and 0). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_Identification_Number Vehicle Identifier Section The 10th to 17th positions are used as the Vehicle Identifier Section or VIS. Model year encoding One consistent element of the VIS is the 10th digit, which is required worldwide to encode the model year of the vehicle. Besides the three letters that are not allowed in the VIN itself (I, O and Q), the letters U and Z and the digit 0 are not used for the model year code. Note that the year code is the model year for the vehicle. A =1980 B =1981 ... K =1989 L =1990 ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_Identification_Number#Model_year_encoding
The letter is worded a little oddly which is a problem... people are looking into this and hopefully will be able to share more information soon. Don't rule out your option number 3 just yet... our initial response from someone who should know for sure, points to it being THE last one period. Last QV to be made.. Next car to be made was an Anniversary. Roy is actually working on this as I have talked to him about it recently and I will let him share what he finds out. We will see soon I hope. I will just throw out there too, that i don't know the seller personally. Many know his name from owning this car but that is all. My interest here is only as the enthusiast that I am and curiosity about this cars history.
I'm unable to figure this color thing out. Back when the countach was produced red, black, and white were the hottest colors. NOT meaning to upset anyone, I luv the c/t in any color, but whether the market is flooded with rd, bk, or wht cars, or not. How do colors that weren't desirable suddenly add value to the car today. As stated, uniquieness?..aren't they unique for a reason,... but still amazing every way! IMO, this goes for any model. 20 yrs from now I would think a bright green murci will have me shaking my head. Now, I like the car(murci), looking back in future, I'm guessing people will say, what were they thinking?, similar to past clothing styles. Story of my life...I'm usually 180* off with any prediction, besides what would everyone discuss if they were all the same.
so, simple price range quote: 1986 dd in really good condition. Mostly original paint, interior is excellent, mechanically up to date and ready to enjoy. 40K miles needs nothing. Perfect color combination I dont want to insult the seller with a low ball offer, nor do I want to pay too much. experts, fire away.
Because taste and preference change with time, region, and with buyer group. Besides, anything will eventually command a premium when there is less of it. Look at the premium that a gated shifter commands in the used market on many different cars.
Im not an expert, but let me try. Have you obtained a PPI at your cost/on your behalf upon which you have arrived at the conclusion that said DD "needs nothing"? Until I know the answer to that question, Im thinking $140k-ish.
I did not mean any disrespect to anybody who took offense to my comment. I want to public state that Roy, Joe, and Ken are the class of their field and have helped in my quest to find the perfect CT. I dont want to give too much information away because the car is not mine and negotiations have just started. I am surprised by how many DD there are for sale/could be for sale based on the emails I have received. You all are funny. Keep the information coming, this has been invaluable.
was not directed at you, or Roy, or Ken, or 97Diablo. Some people are fishing around to find out what car I am talking about. I do not mean any disrespect, but, since the CT community is tight, and I dont want to compete with anybody, I wanted to give just the skeleton until the car is nailed down.
Great that you concur. But the question went unanswered. Again: was the declaration of "needs nothing" based on a PPI that you have performed? Would be good to know if its the seller's declaration, or yours, just from a point of clarification..
Aaaaaaaaah yes. The Countach community is VERY small. Both sellers & buyers seem to reach out before they pull the trigger and the all have pre-concieved notions. I was just asked about a QV DD which is unfortunately unavailable.

OMG, you would think the Countach is the only Lambo ever produced after seeing all the activity every day on this thread!
