It's a bit odd to get in and out of. Very cool looking inside the cabin at night. No other complaints. Well received on the road and respectable performance. If given the chance to choose it for a daily driver or the Tesla Model S P90D I would take the Tesla. Over the Mercedes SLS GT as a weekend or sports car use, the SLS. Maybe I would take it over the new Mercedes GT though.

Debra is out in it now for the first time. I'll let you know what she thinks.

At $40/barrel, I would think it would be better to invest in Ford ahead of Tesla but what do I know? After all, I'm the worst investor here. I have a few cars that have doubled, tripled, and quadrupled in value but I'm firmly one of Roy's "number 6" guys who would rather keep them, enjoy them, and love them even if the values drop to zero. Meanwhile, other guys are psyched about a $25k profit. Clearly, I'm not much of an investor.

Not to worried reg the gas versus electric issue, the majority of the world do Not benefit as much as the Us when oil drops. The big competition is Toyota Audi Mercedes and on and on they all like a part of the Tesla cake,

    Consider this hypothetical.

It's 2020 and you can buy a used 2015 Tesla Model S which still has 3 years of warranty left and unlimited miles. No cost to charge it because you use your roof solar panels and the free for life Tesla SuperChargers. It was $125k new but now sells for $25k used. Remember, it's 8 years old like a 2007 car would be today. There are 4 moving parts in the Tesla motor. The alternative used car is a 2015 Mercedes S Class. It has an exhaust system, fuels system, needs oil changes, has hundreds of internal moving parts, and has a complicated transmission. It has no warranty so when the starter, tranny, or motor fails the car is worth scrap or parts value.

In that setting, who cares about oil prices? I wouldn't take the Mercedes for free. You have to maintain it, buy fuel every other week, and worry it's going to fail every day.

    Counterpoint?

Hey, as I said, I'm the worst investor here. I don't know anything about Tesla's. Given your scenario, I have to question roof solar panels (I attempted to take over a bankrupt solar tech company years ago so I know a little) on every house and also, what about the battery technology and what happens when they go bad? But you don't have to answer me because I'm not much of an investor other than in my own companies.

Most worries on 5 year old cars ar ac and electronics. engines and trannys are pretty good, Teslas have all this systems, also to avoid all headaces, there is allways a good lease deal on Any car today, drive enjoy and give it back, full warranty no worries, these deals are getting better as the competition gets harder

I hear ya, but in driving the Model S around for 13 months and 18k miles I never put a drop of gas in it, never had to even go to a gas station, never changed the oil and air filter, no servicing of any kind. I consider the electric motor in my refrigerator, it's now 12 years old and running fine. And if a motor does have to be replaced, it takes 15 minutes in and out.

Time will tell, but my first long term experience was delightful. Of course the day I sold it the first thing I had to do was fill up the fuel tank in my GL! I forgot how much I hated that.

Hah! I'm getting my rear-end handed to me today on my option purchases! My thoughts are just a bunch of opinions which aren't worth too much. You're wise with the investment strategy stated. Invest in yourself!

Tesla is losing $4k per car, not a very good business model.

Loss leader to establish the brand, model x should be the volume seller and business back bone. Massive achievment so far the car is well engineered with good infrastructure. It could be worse what do VW lose on each Veyron runs into a million or so.

Dow down by more than 500 points, globally the market picture is not pretty what with China, Asia, UK, Europe, etc, we are officially in correction mode. Interest rates slated to increase. How does all this affect Countach values? [back on topic].

Joe, thanks for reeling us back in!

I will offer one opinion based commentary about what I witnessed in Ca. last week. Putting my cars aside. There was spirited bidding and buying for unique or particularly desirable cars. Average of run of the mill inventory struggled more than I have seen in the last few years. If the buyer was interested for a specific reason or the car was generally hard to duplicate, the bidding activity was good to reasonable. I don't see any negative adjustments to the Countach market from what I witnessed. Keep in mind the offering volume has been quite heavy this past 6 months for those cars. This happened to the Hemi market about 10 years ago with prices back on the rise. Maybe one more wave of Countach offerings and I think the volume will then fall off considerably. Only then can prices continue to move higher. Which I completely believe will happen.

    But then I'm probably wrong!

Interesting thoughts, especially your take that average or run-of-the-mill inventory struggled significantly. This is what I see also, but what concerns me the most is that most Countachs fall under this description. I have been looking for cars for certain discriminating buyers, and every car we encounter has issues, is modified with DOT appendages, is partially re-modified, is poorly refurbished or restored etc. Consequently, they pass on them.

As regards the future, who knows? I see the talk of onwards-and-upwards as self-reassuring wishful-thinking not borne out by the raw data, but, as always, its understandable that we should hope for the best.

Joe, this is exactly why the nice stuff is bringing a premium and will continue to do so. Every year and every mile separates the wheat from the chaff. Great cars are never cheap and cheap cars are never great. I probably said that before here, sorry.

Solar panels do not pay back within a reasonable time period without a tax credit or other subsidizing the purchase. Sorry for the digression.

Agreed, which is why I questioned that whole thing about roof panels on every house. In my experience, residential solar is currently one of the most uneconomic business models possible. What other business functions like a sub prime lender offering a second mortgage just to get you to use their product in the hopes that one day, they will have a sizable market? Maybe it's my abhorrence of debt but I just don't see how that makes any sense and as I said, I'm clearly the worst investor here. Anyways, I digress.

Anyways, take all of this with a huge grain of salt. Scott bought a Countach solely to flip for $20k profit to invest in Tesla stock whereas I would rather have all of my cars to drive, love, maintain, and enjoy, even if the values went to zero. I would much rather have an awesome Countach that I could drive and love than some meaningless stocks but cars aren't investments to me. Clearly, I'm from a different mold and it's not important that I "get it." And since it's not my money, it's not my business. I do like seeing who else buys cars and why they do, though. That is incredibly interesting.

Back to your regularly scheduled Countach programming...

  22. Birds of a feather! Haha. JK. I like that saying as well.

In regards to the 525k price, ebay only shows the asking price/best offer & not the sold price.

For the past 6 years, a chart of the Dow, S&P, etc has had a lot of empty space below
a steady climb of prices. Filling that space with a correction would be healthier.
I wonder what the past 6 years of Countach prices would look like plotted as a Bar Chart?

It looks like a very bad start for a Monday. I seriously doubt the Countach prices are falling like the top ten Nasdaq stocks today. Pre-hours trading is around 5% loss so far on the top 5! And that only opened 30 minutes ago. Who knows what will happen when everyone wakes up! Enjoy your car ladies and gentlemen, owning stocks and options today will not be gratifying!
