I must confess the one variant of the Countach I have not owned or even driven is the 2-valve Fuelie Countach, so I cannot comment on that variant at all.

In the last 29 years have owned LP400 (3), LP400S S1 (3), LP500S (2), Downdraft (2), 25th Anniversario (2), and a few others I can't even remember! And all these were personal cars. I have driven many many more Countachs on behalf of clients. So the point is, I am uniquely placed to give a perspective on the full range of Countachs and their numerous characteristics.

I know this is yet another diversion, but I'm sorry, you are wrong.

Man O' War was the best horse ever Man O' War: "The Mostest Hoss There Ever Was" he would leave Hopper trailing by a country mile, and that's official :)

Sound like you guys are enjoying your cars for all the right reason,it's a COUNTACH. All born in the same little town in Italy, sadly in the US there is an arrogant wibe in this environment, which imho is based on the fact buyers have their experts/advisers and act accordingly. And yes the UK market is tempting right now, personally have a bid on a car, but it's not the U.K. Upside, fair price, one owner, down side, could take some time, high miles.

Hi, sorry if I`m wrong as I`ve never even sat in a Countach let alone driven one - but I`ve obsessively read as many roadtests and info as I could find over the last 25 years!

I`ve usually read that the LP400S has the shortest gearing of all due to having the same gear ratios (except a slightly longer 5th?) and final drive as the LP400 but with the smaller rolling radius of the P7 rear tyres.

I`m sure someone else can confirm for sure either way - and for whether it has the same BHP as the LP400. I think some of the late LP400S versions are listed as 353BHP with smaller carbs?

    Regards,
    Dom.

    Nils, let it go.

The more you crow on with little remarks thrown in your posts here & there about ulterior motives, the more it sounds like sour grapes that you own a car that perhaps you'd rather not.

The fact that a particular variant is being hailed as special does not mean other variants are being denigrated or insulted!

We love ALL Countachs, including the variant you own.

There is no arrogant vibe whatsoever, and there is no so-called broker-manipulation or whatever grand scheme you think is at play to subvert the hearts & minds of enthusiasts everywhere

What you see happening is enthusiasts, owners & specialists alike simply making a choice in a free-trade environment, and voting for their preference with their wallets.

What you also see happening is typical 30 years after the cars are built by means of free-information aided by the internet & social media, people are finally separating the variants for what they are by means of additional received wisdom, no different from what you see happening in the classic & vintage car world of Ferrari, Porsche et al.

Stop trying to shoot the messenger, you're only firing blanks, enjoy your car for what it is and know that it is appreciated for what it is.

It is utterly pointless trying to stop people from extolling the virtues of something else which they love. IMHO, that will only make them even more enthusiastic about it in relation to other variants, because resistance has a tendency to engender something as being even more special in the eyes of those who like it :)

I am not sure what you asking...double over what??

AT LEAST my prices are not hidden...my S2 is up on my site and advertise at $625K...so I guess you can take that as to what I think the S2, at least this splendid example is worth today.

BUT then again, as the old saying goes..."its ONLY worth whatever it sells for and money goes in the bank"

I don't really want to speak for Chris, but, I *think* that he means double over the much-lauded Countach QV Fuelie cars, which those who own them seem to say are "the same as" any other variant of Countach.

Perhaps what is piquing my interest as well is, if the variants are all "the same as" one another, how come an LP400S S2 is asking double a Countach QV Fuelie?

After all, the S2 is, as he so eloquently alluded, is just Lower & Slower...

Perhaps we should revise the entire Countach Values chart to have all Countach variants be one standard price?

Maybe that will make everyone happy and the B!tching about the value ranges & differentials will abate?

After all, one could argue that all Countachs are "the same" no?

Let me put this in simpler terms: perhaps we should rate Laura the USA Pie-eating Champion and Natalia the Euro Supermodel as "the same", after all, they are both women?

Okay bad example but perhaps you get the point?

I know, I know, I am full of questions today but my quest for answers will hopefully help us all :)

As I have said before, it looks like a great car. Perhaps even a little low on the ask as Peter said. Best of luck with the sale!

I think this car looks fabulous. I haven't seen it. But if $/£ was not 1.22 but still at 1.50, I'd be calling Roy to see what's what.

I do own a DD, I can't get my head around LP400 prices, so this is my next best thing. Personal view. Feel free to disagree.

However, this is a global market. FX matters and it moves faster than car prices or opinions.

As it stands today, we Brits are going to have to be very focused on the "home market" for the foreseeable future; or else accept that vanity comes at a cost!

Opportunity knocks for the rest of you...

I agree with this and I think this phase is a good opportunity to buy cars at stabilized numbers now that we are no longer in the 'runaway' prices phase that we were 1-2 years ago.

I see the astute actually doing this, and we are looking at some of the RHD cars in the UK for a client ion a faraway RHD country.

BTW, are you far from Simon Furlonger?

I ask as I will not have boots on the ground to look at his Downdraft for another 2 weeks.

Happy to help. Have boots, will travel.

It's an hour or so to drive. Not far from Brands Hatch.

And, by the way, if you like that spec, I went to see another one last week that is tentatively for sale. Which would be a 3rd RHD 88.5 DD, in red, currently for sale here!

    Looked decent value.

    You are spoiled for choice!

Great comparison talk about speeds, injection,DD and quattrovalvole, S2 and other stuff...
when the most important element is this: is it low body or high body? the rest is secondary in a SUPER car like the Countach. Granted having a low body version with the Stewart Warner dials is the pinnacle of all Countach's.
Happy to see nowadays mentioning on the selling ads "low body" 'cause many potential buyers don't even know about this essential fact.

    All true.

There are as many pinnacles as there are variants.

Some also say the Periscopa is the pinnacle, because it has the purest body.

Some may say the Downdraft is the pinnacle because it has the most powerful engine.

    Its all subjective.
