wow. If i recall, cheaper than I sold it. Im surprised. Has Countach market retreated this much? made no sense to me that owner would decide that was the auction for this car.

 

I think both the auction house and the color combination worked against the car. Have RM or Gooding market a red/tan or black, black/black or blue/panna car and the results would have been very different.

$645k was your deal 4 years ago in January of 2016 at a time when the market in general was enjoying an upswing.

Meanwhile the market for Downdrafts has fared very well, whereas other Countach variants are down @ 20-30%, so it depends which Countach variant you are talking about.

A few months ago I sold HLA12093 including importation and fees all done for $840k which is a high point, and at least half-a-dozen Downdrafts have sold in the $600-$700k range, so these are relatively stable.

Agreed, and I think when a properly-restored Downdraft which ticks all boxes comes to auction, the result will be closer to $1m

I think the result was really a reflection of the quality of the restoration and the venue, as opposed to color.

 

Unless it’s a one of one car, I personally think private treaty is the best way to sell a Countach. Most Lamborghinis for that matter.

 

I think you could use that statement as a boiler plate for most low production exotics.

Never understood the auction thing reg the rear exotics,other than beeing a hobby/sport just becuase you like to do so. Or to much time on your hands,With the low amount of cars for sale,why would you not research the market,make up your mind wich model/variant you prefer,then find the cars wich are actually avail for sale,take your time,travel,see and spend time with the car,check out documents,crawl around,take it for a spin,chat with the owner,cup of coffe, and so on,then pull the trigger,once you feel comfy and settled, to me,this would be the only way to buy a 30-40 year old exotic.

 

This is particularly true of Countachs because they are mostly unique even within a given production run.

 

Well sad to say I sold my 88 countach.
16k original miles, my sciatic nerve just couldn’t handle the seat position no matter what I tried.
Anyways since this is a current value thread she went for just over 325k

Can you explain why did it sell so cheap? Also, I was under impression that all 5000S were either Downdraft or Injection. Or am I mixing it with 5000 QV? What is 500S then? Thanks and sorry for dumb questions....

 

5000S is a 2 valve car.
