Very nice; i have several passive aggressive options here...

    1. Start my own, separate thread, despite what you've said and post a few, nice pictures...

    2. Post my stories and pictures in here and include everyone of the 1,000+ pictures i've taken...

    Hmmm... :D

A hip young man goes out and buys the best car available: A brand new Ferrari GTO. It is the most expensive car in the world, and it cost him $500,000. He takes it out for a spin and stops at a red light. An old man on a moped, looking about 100 years old, pulls up next to him. The old man looks over at the sleek, shiny car and asks, "What kind of car ya' got there, Sonny?

The young man replies, "A Ferrari GTO. It cost half a million dollars!"

"That's a lot of money," says the old man. "Why does it cost so much?"

"Because this car can do up to 320 miles an hour!" states the young man proudly.

The moped driver asks, "Mind if I take a look inside?"

    "No problem," replies the owner.

So the old man pokes his head in the window and looks around. Then, sitting back on his moped, the old man says, "That's a pretty nice car, all right... but I'll stick with my moped."

Just then the light changes, so the guy decides to show the old man just what his car can do. He floors it, and within 30 seconds, the speedometer reads 160 mph! Suddenly, he notices a dot in his rear view mirror. It seems to be getting closer! He slows down to see what it could be, and suddenly...whoooooossssh. Something whips by him, going much faster!

"What on Earth could be going faster than my Ferrari?" the young man asks himself.

He floors the accelerator and takes the Ferrari up to 250 mph. Then, up ahead of him, he sees that it's the old man on the moped. Amazed that the moped could pass his Ferrari, he gives

it more gas and passes the moped at 275 mph. Whoooooosssshhhhh! He's feeling pretty good until he looks in his mirror and see the old man gaining on him again!

Astounded by the speed of this old guy, he floors the gas pedal and takes the Ferrari all the way up to 320 mph. Not ten seconds later, he sees the moped bearing down on him again! The Ferrari is flat out, and there's nothing he can do.

Suddenly, the moped plows into the back of his Ferrari, demolishing the rear-end. The young man stops and jumps out, and unbelievably, the old man is still alive.

He runs up to the old man and says, "Oh my God! Are you OK? Is there anything I can do for you?"

The old man whispers... "Unhook...my...suspenders...from... your.... side view mirror."

It only went for 780K, I believe. Sorry, I didn't record the results... RM will post them on their website, so I didn't bother.

The only one to go for over a million was the Chaparal 1... $1,010,000. The 288 GTO went for $280K, if I remember right.

At the Christie's auction, the crown jewel of all the auctions IMO went to one of our own!! But I don't want to steal his thunder... I'll let him announce it when he gets back. (How's that for a teaser? ;) )

And when Enzo heard it, it made more sense since it was in kilometers per hour... whoever converted your joke to MPH forgot to adjust the numbers... or is that a rocket-powered GTO? ;)

Yeah, the way they ran the school made no sense... they had two groups and queued up group 2 in hot pit while group 1 was out... then as they were streaming group 1 in, they sent group 2 out... the instructors were still in the group 1 cars!! So, very few group 2 drivers got any instruction.

I got some in the initial session that was supposed to be a few quick laps, pull off, and switch with the other driver (in my case, Jon Ward). But he didn't even do that... so Jon had to go scavenge up an instructor in a later session.

Worse, the traffic was horrid... and the instructors weren't helping... even in the "fast" group. It is sooo frustrating to be stuck behind someone who won't let you pass safely. In one case, a 550 was slow through all the twisties, but would floor it on the straights... and with all his horsepower, you couldn't pass there... leaving you to pass in the twisties... but his line was too unpredictable. There was another older Ferrari that would move way off line, as if letting you pass, and then as you started to, he'd whip back across to the proper line. Must've just been lost on track and oblivious to the chaos he was causing behind him.

But in the next session, I managed to put a huge hole in front of me on the warm-up lap, and got several really good laps before running into a clog. And the last session was really good.

There was an F50GT out there... that was fun to pass!! What a sound it makes! There was a 360GT... it passed me so fast, I didn't get to enjoy it. I think Rob was trying to keep up with it... pretty successfully for a while, it seemed. I followed Jon Ward in his Stradale for a while... it was fun to hear the duo song of our Stradales harmonizing as we opened it up on the main straight... complete with the echo off the hills. In the last session, I followed an Enzo and a very well-driven 355 for a quite a while.

Last session of the day, I saw Dave Wilson, the head instructor, on his way out in his Maranello and I bummed a ride... that was HUGELY helpful... there were three corners that I hadn't quite figured out... now I know how to take them. Unfortunately, it was the last session... so, I have to wait until Wednesday to try out my new-found knowledge. (And it was fun to experience a Maranello on track... such smooth, composed delivery of power... and mucho low-end torque... Dave often didn't bother to downshift.)

Right now, I'm fearing my rear brake pads might not make four more sessions... UGH!

But Laguna Seca is a fabulous track... huge elevation changes... several blind corners... a couple that are "you're seeing God if you're doing it right" corners... more than one 120+mph straights... fast and very technical. Mucho fun!!!!

Robert, C O N G R A D U L A T I O N S! Your GT4 looks like it is still in the showroom. And you drove it there and you do drive it. Not like the other trailer queens that sit and rot. I am proud of you. I can only hope some day mine looks at good as yours. Mine isn't too far behind.

Looks like I missed out on a few things, I didn't arrive with my gf until late Friday night around 2:00am, would have liked to have gone to CI and the Fchat dinner.

Went to the races Sunday the F1 2003 Ferrari tried to set a new lap record with the Ferrari factory driver Alberto ? for 6 laps, the best he could do was 2 seconds off at 1:09 the record set in '99 at 1:07, he almost lost it a few times during this.

Had a great time though seeing these old cars in action is what it's all about, the final race of the weekend was won by a 1200lb Porsche 908 with a Ferrari 512 so close behind him all the way but the light Porsche just kept pulling away from him in the corners and braking areas.

I saw countless 360s, Dino's, many 3xx series cars, Testarossa's, 330gt's, 250's, 275s, a light blue GTO and a red Enzo all on Hwy 1 many were downtown Monterey also, countless Lambo Murci's, Gallardo's, Diablo's and a black Countach on Hwy 1 and many parked downtown, as flashy looking as the Lambos are no-one seemed to pay any attention to them in comparison to the vintage Ferraris.

A little more info on the ill-fated F399: it is chassis #193 that Schumacher crashed at Silverstone. It was repaired and then raced by Mika Salo at Hockenheim and Spa.

My speculation is that the chassis was modified based on where it broke (f1 cars do not break like that) and how clean the line is (CF does not break like that). I couldn't have taken much of an impact to break the nose off or the driver would have been severely injured.
