Is that the same car as the #12 in Eric's photos? ... if not do we have more photos of the 'prototype' GTO? Also I thought the prototype GTO was missing?? Pete
Haha, yep sure does look like the largest Ferrari gathering, if not in the US, maybe the world ... but you know I meant missing as in nobody can find the car at all, thus assumed destroyed (by the factory?). Pete
How many millions of dollars do you guys think all the cars cobined costs? I say attleast $200,000,000.
Yes and no. 2643GT was the first real prototype. It is still alive and well: http://www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Ferraris/Detail/2643GT.250GT.htm 2053GT, on the other hand, was the ultimate test mule. It went through more rebodies and adjustments than you could count. It has since been destoryed.
Monday night we had the FCA Banquet at the Monterey Aquarium. Good time, we had the entire aquarium to ourselves with food and bars setup through the entire place.
Today was the FCA Concours at Quail Lodge. Great turnout of I think 200+ Ferraris. Just a sampling...
We've been too busy going from event to event to enjoy a nice drive. Coming home from the FCA concours we took the long way around along the coast before meeting the Dallas gang down on Fisherman's Wharf.
2053GT was scrapped in 1964 and the current location and owner of the wreck is most definitely known. Regards Andrew in NZ
Hmmm, now that is the first time I have heard that comment ... surely it is not stored away in NZ somewhere??? ... but cool if it is, but please PM me with more details and the next time I visit the family, I'll take a look That car has to be one of the last great discoveries and God knows how much that would be worth ... maybe not as much as the GTO that came 2nd at Le Mans, but it is still a significant car IMO. Pete
A lot more than that. The 20 GTO's at the track alone could account for half that amount. Add in all the other GTO's, the classics, the Enzos, the F1's...
The prototype "anteater" body was scrapped and its chasis got a 250 SWB body and went to Francorchamps. It crashed again (in 1962 this time) and got a Drogo body. It received more damage in transit. It made it through 1963 but had a huge accident at in 64. Apparently Francorchamps still has the bits and it has not been rebuilt.
I'm surprised the d@mn SEALS didn't have Ferrari polos on! LOL! A major oversight by the event organizers, IMO...... I think you could buy ALL these cars for "all the money in the world, plus 10%.." That was a sharp suit...Napolis is pretty cool!
