Hi guys. While I was on an enforced absence, one question kept coming to mind.... there seem to be some people who come to Ferrarichat for various reasons. I’m just an enthusiastic owner, I haven’t got tons of money to buy the cars, I manage to do so through luck and sweat. I enjoy talking to those that can only dream of owning one as much as I admire and aspire to be like those here for whom a Ferrari is a mere cheap trinket in their stable of jets and boats! I support the Ferrari F1 team and enjoy enveloping myself in the Ferrari culture. I take my cars to weddings, proms, events and even the odd funeral for people to enjoy that might otherwise never experience sitting in one, let alone going for a blast in one. What makes you come to Ferrarichat? Is it for the cars, the lifestyle, to speak with those at the top of their careers, to encourage others in their dreams? Or are you here for negative reasons, if so, no judgement, but why? What is the perception of Ferrari owners? What about Aston owners, or Lambo owners..... what are the main differences in the perception of each group, and how could we change the negatives to positives?
Drawn to Ferrari's. Came for that. Stayed for the good people. It sounds dumb (especially to my wife) to consider a lot of people on here "friends", but frankly, I align with more on here than many of my HS and college friends who've grown distant, as we're all in our own worlds. Oh, and I really like cars.
I came for the cars. There's no way my wife and I could have made anything close to an informed decision when we bought our Cali without the knowhow gained from this forum. I also enjoy music, sports & food threads. I am fortunate to work with people I like, but they happen to not be into cars, food, or sports. So, F-chat is a great place to chin wag with like minded folks interested in those things. I learn a lot from people here...T
Passion, achieving a goal, learning, busting balls, lending help, drooling. Yeah that pretty much covers it.
Like others, I came here for the cars (3x8 and Mondial) and stay for the community. Not interested in other social media platforms.
I come here for the caliber of people that relate to Ferrari whether owners or not. In fact it seems those that are not current owners I relate to better. Those that have the fewest posts with the latest cars... I dont.
Joined to get more insight on my first Ferrari purchase. Stayed for the support, DYI, information and hopefully to help me keep my 80s cars on the road. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Why do I read FChat? It's complicated, but the short answer is: entertainment and education. I've always been interested in cars, and I've been interested in Ferraris since I was a kid. To start, though, it must be said that FChat is, hands down, the best run car-focused forum site on the internet. I am registered on lots of sites, and FChat is in a class by itself. So, in brief, the reasons I'm on FChat and check it regularly are: It's about Ferraris, and I like reading about Ferraris. I like reading about restorations, vintage Ferraris, and the new directions the company is taking. It gives me a peek into a world I am not part of but find interesting, e.g., people with so much excess cash, they can and will buy expensive cars they neither want nor need so that they can qualify to buy even more expensive cars that they do want; the very high end collector car market and the people who make their living from it; the occasional epic thread (375+ # 0384) that takes me places I didn't even know existed, etc. The members - it's an interesting, occasionally compelling, cast of characters from all over the world. I'm not an owner and never will be. I've had interesting and fun cars (BMW M Coupe, Honda S2000, several Alfas), but as interested as I am in Ferraris I do not know whether I would ever buy one, even if I had the means. In retirement my wife and I started a horse boarding business, and I'm more interested in tractors, skid loaders, and their various attachments. I find that I enjoy buying and having things I can use to accomplish a job of some sort more than things I would own just because they are fun to look at. Fortunately, there are plenty of other people who do buy those things and don't mind if I get satisfaction from looking at theirs. No doubt this is much more about me than you are interested in reading, but I appreciate you asking the original question. George Rickerson
Thanks for all the responses so far! Keep em coming. George - what’s a horse boarding business? Boarding ‘stables’ for horses, how does that work? I haven’t heard the term before.
At first it was to learn. I wanted to learn as much as I could about my 360 before I acquired it. Then, it was to contribute what I could to help other owners maintain their cars. With 66k miles on my car I see things break ahead of the general curve. Now I come to Ferrarichat to spout random and rather obnoxious commentary on well.. everything and anything. As long as I can write something borderline offensive. Basically, it's cheap therapy now. And an outlet to life's inexorable challenges.
I joined when l bought my second Fcar...a 360 Spider. Became aware of Fchat from my Forza subscription. Really didn’t know what to expect. I have learned alot about Ferraris in particular and cars in general. A tremendous resource. Became silver subscribed and really have gotten involved in the P&R thread. The Funny Political Cartoons thread is priceless. Was heavily involved in the F1 thread but got tired of Fchatters going right to nuclear war over differences of opinion. Now l really enjoy the NFL Pickem thread. I post the weekly results. It’s alot of work but alot of fun. Has made being an NFL fan much more fun. As the most humble person on the planet, where else would l go?
+100 The NFL related threads have really increased my enjoyment of the game. Just the right ratio of heat to light. T
So, I joined many years ago when I had a passion to own a Ferrari. Fast forward to today, I sold my 360 last year after a year of ownership (long story) and am still here because of the comradery (Sid being there for Eric is a great example), great educational threads, and to learn even more. There isn't another forum out there with a better signal to noise ratio.
Thanks for the nod man! I’m always happy to help anyone from here with anything in my power to have a positive impact
I came on f/chat after I had a new exhaust put on my 355 spider I had just bought, and they mentioned selling the TUBI I took off on Ferrarichat. 2 days later, it was sold for $2,500 to an f/chat member in San Francisco. That was in late January of 2004 and I have been hooked ever since. The local F/chat group of Rob, Jimpo, Tillman, Farmer Dave, SpeedRacerette, Rob Cohen, Nick, Jano, Lightguy, and others were having regular carting/ drinking events, and I bought in right away. Fun times !
mainly because I am bored and this site provides good number of pictures (read car porn) and useful info. Sometimes, good fun to read the imposter's thread.
