Cavallino like FCA has 2 levels of awards. Since it has changed hands the class awards, in Cavallinos case the Platnum awards are awarded on the field just prior to the end of the event. Only the special awards, indicating best of show, best comp car, etc are awarded at the dinner. How they handle that I do not know but I do know some recipients are no shows. Since it is not announced that you are being given a special award I suspect if you do not have a dinner ticket you are SOL.

Its not like someone will run out and tell you here is a ticket for dinner because you won an award. In that sense it is the same as when John ran it.

But had a "special award" recipient been a no-show at the dinner, did they contact or send it to him/her after the event or just re-badged for next years event ?

All of this shows the direction Ferrari is headed. Screw heritage. The way forward belongs to young hipsters. Maybe it is the right corporate decision. Harley Davidson ignored young people for decades, and it caught up with them. I don't like it, but I'm not an young hipster. Putting it nicely, I'm an old fart. Maybe we need to have an old fart show?

The only reason Ferrari ever cared about Ferrari heritage is because they found out people were making money on it.

I remember in the 80s when we would order build sheets on early cars we often got a form back with mostly blank spaces. It was all the information they had. They were too busy building and selling cars to keep the lights on to be concerned with recording history that no one knew would ever matter.
Now they hold themselves up as the only reliable source of information when in reality much would have been lost forever without the efforts of people like Marcel, Alan Boe , David Seielstad and many more like them.

Gerald sure put some truth to some of the claimed production numbers.

Next they will have that silly blonde car show girl etc etc.

Oh and I have it on good authority;) that this year and henceforth the "VVIP" badge will be a golden tortellini and chain and that judges will have to dress in
the ridiculous Ferrari "high fashion" garbo_O:rolleyes:...

I actually think it has more to do with a misunderstanding of the American market. Would Canossa feature somebody like this at one of their premier European events?

Its been clear from the start the old Cavallino was not in their interest. They wanted the name, the bona fides and the reputation as a foundation to build their new vision from. Now if you buy Coca Cola to make a different cola drink you may be OK. If you buy it to make a new ginger ale it might not be a good business plan.

Frankly, it looks like Ferrari has been paying more and more attention to the Asian market than the US.

Its a very expensive market for them. With our safety laws, consumer protection laws and civil court system it costs them a lot of heart burn. Problem is it has been and still is much to big a market to ignore. Asia just has not become the market they hoped for.
