Let me guess- the user is SupercarSlayer - so I got the same message. Apparently someone not only has too much time on their hands because i dont even have the same username on Mclaren Life. Hardly ever post there but here are the two messages I got:

"So now that you bought a ****ty Mac you are always defending it on fchat. What a ****ing idiot you are. Just stay out and sell the Ferrari. ****ing idiot moron, son of a big ****ing whore."

"Still butthurt Ferrari denied you a Pista?

Always talked trash about mac but now that he bought one is the best thing ever. ROFLMAO

Btw i'm not anonymous, just say the day and place, i will rip you apart. Bring your wife so i can bang her aswell."

    Gotta love the internet.

He has 3 posts on Mclaren Life- each one is bashing Mclaren and praising Ferrari. So now he made it is mission to let anyone who is a mclaren fan know what a tough guy he is.

Im sure he is reading this but probably too big of a weenie to post here in public. But yes- he did some serious detective work to find my username there and send me a message.

Apparently he is a tough guy behind the keyboard. Probably some high school kid with a Honda Accord and a poster of a ferrari on his bedroom wall.

Interesting response. Really only further confirms my original thoughts that mac owners on forums are very sensitive creatures.

And no from what I've read, I am certainly not the only member here to comment on mac's reliability issues - or have quoted personal or close experiences with the brand which has put them off buying it over their Ferrari or other chosen marque. Having an opinion is not a crime.

I have seen many threads here where members share info and discuss problems with their Ferrari's without defense mechanisms kicking in and tempers flaring, name calling and the likes, which always follows the on line mac crowd. Why is it that the mere mention of the word Mac as having any form of build issue or problem sends mac sentinels into an automatic frenzy - up go the shields - out come the insults! Now why is that????

I also don't buy this story mac owners just want to own their car and any problems and the likes are to remain taboo, never to be discussed - certainly not on a car forum of any type. That's total BS. I'm not buying.

And in so far as the Ferrari crowd go, being a relative newbie to the brand they appear to me to be reasonable and generally fine people, open to a wide range of topics without resorting to the type of defensive behavior you get from the on line mac owner. Taking yourself as an example. You question me about the handbrake part on your wife's 570 (I suspect in a bid to make me out as making the whole thing up), which I then obliged you the detail, and you respond by negatively characterizing myself and another member here. Nice.

And, even now still attempting to demean me with your above posting as if you are the Fchat mouthpiece? Maybe you are for the mac owners here? Fine. Frankly I truly don't really care what you own or how you drive, or how long you've been here as it shouldnt give you the right to put yourself above others, particularly at the next persons (my) expense.

Perhaps if you weren't so emotionally invested in censoring opinion you may get to learn a bit more about your mac. And, having a Ferrari as well also shouldn't give exclusive rights to put yourself above the next person as you are trying to do with me. I own and have owned a number of cars over the years but I don't see myself as being any better or superior than the next owner who only owns one car. I don't care for elitism....no time for it.

And this point with Ferrari owners not driving their cars? - and Mac owners doing much the same thing - don't quite understand your point? Or is it that by not using them they won't manifest problems so why talk about them? Is that it?

Well I like using my cars, I don't care that much about the mileage so long as I'm having fun because that's how I and the guys I drive with am. So any info about what goes wrong has value to me. Ok maybe I don't fit the Ferrari mold there but so what...doesn't bother me. But if I want to offer an opinion like the next person here, I should be able to do so without Mac sentinels storm trooping, crying foul all the time calling everyone haters and the likes. That is just so childish and unnecessary....as is the dummy spitting and other characterizing. Rant over!

shadow; I didn't even read your posting...

In real life; no one cares to get into these debates (not the people who own these cars anyways). No one gives a crap and they all go in and out of the different marques and own all types of cars.

This Friday; I'm going to go to Laguna Seca. Will drive down with another 720s, meet up with a 488, track with gt3, gt3rs, gt2rs, a number of BMW's, Radicals. We are going to compare lap times, brake pad useage, whether we should go aftermarket, what types of speeds we are hitting, how we are manipulating sound, shake hands after a good chase of each other and soak up the atmosphere and all feel blessed that we are able to have fun together. There will be no discussion whatsoever that is happening on these forums of one brand vs another.

A few days later; I get to go with a private day at Thunderhill. It's going to be me in the mac with all porsches. Discussions, about lap times, speeds, aftermarket pads, rotors, do some chasing of each other, shake hands after a good chase, get some pointers and all leave with smiles on our faces and hopefully no one crashes.

A few weeks later; I get to go to COTA and meet up with a few different members who are on these forums. Do the same discussions, do some side by side rolls on back straight, laugh together, eat together, get some coaching, do some ride alongs and just think how blessed we are to have these cars and how much fun we are having together.

Not one time will there be a discussion about supremacy of one marque over another.

...but, gotta say what a load of pathetic rubbish all the private messages quoted above are. Don’t really want to be on a forum with people like that. McLaren make great cars, so do Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini. I’m glad and blessed to be able to afford to buy them. I prefer Ferrari followed by Porsche, others don’t. There are some reasons for that and I’m happy enough to talk about them on the Internet. Others have reasons to prefer different brands to me. It shouldn’t be a crime. I enjoyed my McLaren but probably won’t buy another. It is irritating when people get a little too ‘over-excited’ promoting their preference but I suppose that’s understandable and no doubt some will see some of my posts in the same light. It’s the internet. Nicer if we all try to find a way to get along. Something recently reminded me life is short, so I much prefer to spend it doing things I like. And comments like the ones quoted make me like all this a whole lot less.

Yeah sure. Probably best you didn't even though I know you did lol.

And please tell me something I don't know (not being a smart ass). An internet forum is not a track event or overnight drive with friends which by sound of it I do equally as much as you there - i.e enter into same situations with subsequent discussion over dinner drinks etc. I also can't recall the time to go over stuff that I've seen get bought up here - usually going over the hype of the day or drive in the "real world" situations.

The internet is clearly a different medium to express opinions and experiences, which is great. Probably why we both spend time here in between the "real world stuff".

Please don't try and have me believe mac owners are so cool for school they have zero interest in certain realities which others have experienced - matters which may determine the outcome of "one's" ownership experiences, cause I won't buy that. Essentially what you are saying here is Mac owners are bereft of providing least of all accepting any feedback or criticism over the very product which they have paid good money for because they know they wont own them long enough to care to know. Hmm...maybe why Mac is happy to throw them together knowing owners of macs don't give a s -ht as they wont own them long enough anyway (pretty sure they read the forums) IMV someone needs to keep them on their game. Maybe you should be thanking these so called "haters" and bring down those defense shields. Quality control need not be a slow work in progress.

Sorry to interrupt. Just spent an hour reading through this thread. Love these debates...some good information and lots of opinions. I’m new to Ferrari and this Forum. This community is no different than others...we all want to find the best car! Let’s acknowledge that finding “the” best car is an elusive goal as we all have our own preferences, plus cars keep changing. A more realistic goal for me is to find “my” best car today.

To me, exotic cars are all about how I feel driving them on the road (handling, power, sound, styling, ...). I rarely track my cars. It’s all emotional and hence quite subjective. Although low depreciation and reliability are nice to have, I’m not sure how to get them into the mix to evaluate these supercars. My best car right now is my newly acquired 458 Italia, better than any Porsche, Mac, Lambo or other Ferrari’s I have ever driven. I’ll write my review in a separate thread. But this is me, today.

My friend is expecting to receive his 600LT soon. I really look forward to comparing it first hand with everything else I have driven.

    Back to the main program!

I'm on MacLife (have been for years) no messages yet...same IP as here if anyone has any questions :)

It's kinda where society is headed these days and I think because people don't meet face to face anymore. They communicate via text and phone period. The post exotic car made above is EXACTLY how car guys really act. Show up at track (or C&C or whatever floats your boat) and look, drive and chat about other brands. For many years I didn't understand the Mac brand but the more time I spent researching and talking to friends (those guys at the track exotic talks about) the more I became to appreciate them. I've gone through that with every brand. Hell I didn't get the whole Raptor truck thing--now I cannot imagine not having one to haul stuff from Home Depot, etc.

I said it in the Mac section here, even with a few that want to bash brand A or B, I still think F Chat is the most balanced, because most here have or currently own many other brands and it's THEIR perspective that really matters to me.

Fingers crossed on 720 neogitaion...may or may not work out, but I'm determined to scratch the itch.

And then there are others who feel the need to fanboy one brand and all others (unless they have one) suck. Immature. I cant imagine showing up to a car event, track or otherwise and telling someone that their car sucks, is too slow or whatever so I wouldn't do it here either.

The Mac vs Ferrari threads seem to bring the worst out of certain people. Most other threads that I have been on are quite civil. There are some P&R threads that can get a bit sideways but that is expected. Just a matter of respect and consideration for others.

This is where you lose people. It is one thing to get "ownership experience" from an "owner" and another from someone who heard from their "friend". McLife has plenty of threads with people having issues - none similar to what you have pointed out but yes certain issues. It is no different from the copious 488 threads reporting problems such as wheels falling off, fading paint, electrical issues, brake issues, etc. The overwhelming bias on your part is what causes the friction. What Exoticdreamer is saying is that most of us are not a fan of one certain brand so we dont have a particular allegiance. You continually dismiss this and rant on things you have manifested in your own head. We are car fans, it is our passion whether Ferrari, Mac, Porsche, Lambo or other. Why cant you just accept this?

Looks like 3 people here got those messages on mclaren life. Absolutely sad and pathetic. Sad and pathetic cause in real life face to face this person would never say that to someone’s face. I’m sure there was some liquid courage going on last night when he sent those messages and likely he woke up in the am and has sobered up and realized what an idiot he was for sending those messages - all over what?? A mclaren vs Ferrari discussion?? Truly sad.

I regularly attend our local Cars and Coffee and at a track a couple of hours from home, and I can attest to the fact that everyone is very respectful and excited to discuss others cars. Never experienced rudeness or brand bashing. I will further state that from the time I joined this forum, when I owned a F430, and Porsche Turbo and a Turbo S cab, the overwhelming prevailing sentiment was that a Ferrari is a Ferrari and that Porsche had no soul and while competent was very looked down upon. The attitude here has definitely changed. There is a greater openess to other brands and no longer so devoutly Ferrari centric. McLaren Life, unfortunately, highly resembles the Ferrari forum of 4 years ago.

I don't really see how it's possible to say ML resembles devout Ferrari fanatics unless you're saying all McLaren owners are first time exotic owners. If you assume most McLaren owners have owned exotics before, then they had to come from somewhere...

Just an FYI, our good friend the McLaren PM Troll was supposedly posting from Portugal. So if there are any people in Portugal contributing to this thread recently, you can make your own assumptions about whether it's them or not heh.

Could be a wrong IP, but might as well out a troll if possible, no?
