    Hi

I am in the midst of changing the piston ring for my testarossa and I have ordered a set of piston ring from AWitalian . Has anyone installed these before ? The shapes are different to the original and I just want to make sure these are okay to be installed . Pls share your experience and thoughts .

You mean a whole set of rings and rebuilding your engine? Newer style rings can differ in the oil ring especially. Did you get your cylinders nikasil coated again?

Maybe one of the experienced engine builders will chime in.

Yes correct , I have oil leak to piston due to the piston ring so I am changing all of them . I am not sure if the newer octagon style piston ring fits well as the original testarossa ring is round . No I didn’t get the cylinders coated .

Never seen a Ferrari 4 valve motor that needed rings. I had a friend with over 250,000 miles on his TR and it didn't need rings.

If you are not getting it I am very dubious of the diagnosis.

I think more the oil usage comes from the valve seals
before you install the rings check the gap when the ring is in the cylinder

as I know only the latest cars ( 512M ) had nikasil and for those you need other material for the rings

Not true. All 4 valve motors had nikasil. from 1985 and newer, V8 and 12.

So does that mean I need to do Nikasel costing for my cylinder also ? The oil ring shape that I show looks very different to original size , anyone tried to install it before ? Thanks

With Porsche’s of the same era with nikasil, all you do is gently scrub the nikasil with warm soapy water and a scotch guard pad to get new rings to seat. Lots of info on the Porsche sites. Just wrapping up a 930 build right now...
