Had 'em? Love 'em still or hated 'em?

Not a sob story, rather, I view it as best thing that happened, but, I've been mostly absent, as due to a fire adjacent [read: I hate Brazilians] to our former residence, we were smoked out of one place into another.

As such, where applicable, I've been busily revamping or replacing much of the household.

To bed, or not to bed, that is the question.

Girlfriend and i are still trying to decide if we want a low modern platform bed or a more traditional one. I like the low to the ground look. Last bed i got was 17 years ago so i'm gonna take my time deciding since i'd be well into my fifties if i stick to the 17 year plan again

I like the look of the modern ones. How does the mattress not slip around though? Never mind, some I saw didn't look like they don't have a groove.

This'll be a stupid answer, but, for me, the question was one of aesthetics more than anything. My bedroom has large (floor-to-cieling) windows with a nice view. I wanted the view to be more of the focal point of the room than the furniture. So I went with less, rather than more (not a bad thing for a room in which one tries to relax/sleep, in my opinion).

The platform bed looks good. It's clean, simple, and allows me to wake up to a great view without much in the way. The platform bed just fit.

The only problem a person might have is the height. Some people don't like lower beds.

The center is recessed and has slats underneath. Mattress lays on the slats and the edge of the bed frame holds the mattress in place.

I even googled and I'm still not sure I know what a Platform Bed is.

Ouch! That looks painful - I tend to dangle my feet off the end.

I'm only around 6'2" or 6'3", but like to dangle my feet no matter how long the bed is. Certainly do like the looks of that thing though!

Talked to "the Matress Doctor" and asked him about platform beds. He said that basically box springs just gaves beds height and to him more money.

In Asia they seem to be the norm and I love them.

I've been using this bed for more than six years now. As shown in the photo, I have nothing else in the room except a low chaise lounge, but do have floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides. The bed and mattress are Italian. The mattress doesn't slip around, and it works well for me.
