Ah yes. You are right, Amenasce. Quite a stunning car. I'd like to learn more about it. I did find the blue prototype that R. Forbes may be talking about.

Must just be the angle of the photo, but isn't there another car that is sort of a "replicar" of the real one?
I believe that is the same car that was campaigned by Scuderia Bear in the early 60's. Here are a couple of pictures that come from the McKelvy collection. cheers ken Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Actually a 250GT '61 comp w/ Pininfarina prototype body used to some degree by the factory as development car for 250GTO. The body shape was not too successful as it had a bit of front-end lift, from what I've heard. But what do I know? Go ask Sir Stirling!
if it was a pininferrina prototype it wouldnt have a B piller or the little metal seperation that splits the door window and the smokers wing. All the PF the prototypes until the late 60s had a single pane of glass in the door.
The single pane was seen in Battista's personal cars (like 4335GT) but "all" is too strong a word. 1287GT (the GTE prototype) has a vent window and framed side window like 2643GT. As early as 1952 (0240AL) similar design features were used. The 400SA coupes, close kin to 2643GT, including 2373SA (the Geneva show car) have this same design. T308
I made poster 2643GT well, in this way I realized thanks to Etienne, whom I had to note this car GTO whereas it is not it. it was the car which had been used as preproduction to the 250 GTO, in particular with regard to the body. j'ai bien fait de poster 2643GT, de cette façon je me suis rendu compte grace à Etienne, que j'avais noter cette voiture "GTO" alors qu'elle ne l'est pas. c'était la voiture qui avait servie de pré-serie à la 250 GTO, en particulier en ce qui concernait la carrosserie
Is this the replicar you are thinking of? I think this is an E type underneath Image Unavailable, Please Login
hi could the pinkumbrella post the text by S Moss about this car this is what i have found and guessed at. four pre GTO cars were built by Pininfarina of which 2643 was one. according to PF and mr. Bizzarrini this car was not considered a GTO prototype though the GTO prototype title has benn given it by several "experts". so what do we know. 2643 was built in 1961 probably using a SWB type chassis. and was intended as a competition coupe. the engine was a 250 TR competition engine bur with three double choke carbs instead of the 6 DC carbs of the TR. the reason for this was the 6 carb layout would not fit under the hood and even with the 3 carb setup a long low hump was required in the hood to clear the carbs. the body was symilar to the Superamerica but with a number of variations required for racing. these differences can easily be seen in "ferrari and Peninfarina" by G Rogliatti page 92 etc. the car was entered by the factory at Le Mans in 1961 [race #12]and later was acquired by Rob Walker who took it to the 1962 Daytona 3 hours [race #18] for 'some guy named Stirling Moss' who finished 4th overall. now there is some question as to whether two cars were built and the Daytona car was not the Le Mans car due to a second air intake below the grill on the Daytona car etc. my feeling is that the LeMans car was modified for Daytona to improve the cooling. according to Forza #76 #2643 was the Daytona car. the Daytona car is pictured on page 102 in "Ferrari , Sports and GT cars" by Fitzgerald et al and is referred to as the second car built. this is a great book but with numerous historical errors so i am going with the one car theory. according to another post the car was also entered at LeMans in 1962 with what looks like USA racing colors. i would be glad to hear from anyone out there regarding the history of this car after Daytona 1962. enjoy tongascrew george [email protected]
It's a 400i underneath. It's 37647 and belongs to Anthony Bamford and was created by DRL Engineering. T308
