Remember, if these are the original early 1995 brackets and you've removed original tensioner bearings from them, they will not work with OEM 167464 or Hill Engineering PT355 bearings. You would either need one of the following: (1) original 158157 bearings, (2) retrofit kits 70000973, or (3) modify the bracket to avoid rubbing and then fit a new/updated bearing. .
Thank you. This is all work that has been done for sometime now. Just posting to bring thread current. New work starts in a few weeks.
Wow really amazing what that tumbling and blasting does! It's going to look like a brand new 355 when done!
Edit: never mind, I was having a brain fart and asked that question without even picturing it. If someone read it please just forget I asked.
What's the point of tumbling after glass beading? Does that tighten up the surface to help prevent the accumulation of dirt in the "craters"?
Great question: The bead blasting does a great job at removing dirt, etc but it leaves a surface finish not represented by the parts originally (similar to sand blasting) Tumbling somewhat re polishes the surface. Tumbling along would not get into the nooks and crannies that glass beads can
Thanks, Dave. The change in appearance is one of my concerns about glass beading aluminum parts on Italian cars. What do you use as tumbling media?
When parts are sand cast, the surface is not really altered by the glass beads, Mike. It's the die cast aluminum parts that are most noticed and the tumbling brings them back to the original finish. We use plastic and synthetic tumbling media for aluminum along with a special solution.
